Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Raku" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a studio potter's firing log presented like a raku vessel. Smoky black crackle glaze, copper luster and iridescent teal that shimmer where the glaze pools. Quiet, crafted and a little mysterious.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Ground: #161413 (raku black).
- Crackle lines: #3B3430, with the bolder cracks in #51463F.
- Series: #E08A4E (copper luster) and #3FB8AF (iridescent teal). A third series, if needed, is #E8E2D6 (matte white).
- Text: #E8E2D6 for the title, #A69C90 for everything secondary.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Marcellus for the title (29px, #E8E2D6, sentence case stating the finding), subtitle (15px, #A69C90, measure, unit and what the bands mean), axis labels (13px, #A69C90) and the uppercase axis title (11px, 2.4px letter-spacing).
- Lora italic for annotations (400, 15px, in the series color), series labels (600, 16px) and the source line (13px).

Layout:
- 64px margins. Title at y 70, subtitle at y 102. Plot about x 104 to 860, y 176 to 500. Source bottom left at y 572, the maker's mark bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines except a 1px #E8E2D6 baseline at 45% opacity. Gridlines 0.8px #E8E2D6 at 14%, dashed 2 on 5 off, at 4 round values. Y labels right-aligned 14px left of the plot; x labels every other step 26px below the baseline.

Marks:
- Line chart: smooth monotone-cubic lines. Each line has a 6px blurred bloom (blur 4) in its color at 35%, then a 3px round-capped stroke whose horizontal gradient shimmers like luster (copper: #B8642F, #F2B27A, #E08A4E, #F5C08E, #C8793F; teal: #2F9C95, #8FE3D8, #3FB8AF, #7CD6E6), then a 0.8px white highlight at 30% offset 1px up. Uncertainty bands are smooth shapes filled at 30% opacity with an iridescent horizontal gradient (copper band #C8793F to #9A5FA8 to #D9A05A; teal band #3FB8AF to #4A7FD0 to #7BCFA8), so the crackle shows through like glaze pooling.
- Bar chart: bars with 2px rounded tops filled with the same luster gradients running vertically, a 1px white highlight at 30% along the top, and translucent (30%) iridescent error ranges behind them. Values in Lora italic above.
- Mark the key points with a 4.5px dot in the series color ringed 2px in the ground color, a 30px vertical leader and a Lora italic annotation. Label series directly in Lora italic 600 beside their lines. No legend.

Texture:
- Glaze mottling: low-frequency fractal noise (0.004, 3 octaves) in a dark warm grey at 40%.
- Crackle: a jittered lattice of points about 26px apart, joined to their right and lower neighbors (86% of the time) and occasionally diagonally, each edge bent at a randomly offset midpoint. Draw most at 0.7px #3B3430 at 80% and about one in six at 1.1px #51463F at 75%. The network runs under everything, including the bands.

Effects:
- A maker's mark in the bottom right: a 34px square stamp with 5px rounded corners, a small circle over a short stem and foot, all 1.6px #E8E2D6 strokes at 72% opacity, rotated -5 degrees.

Avoid: pure black, bright saturated fills, sharp polyline corners, a boxed legend, opaque bands that hide the crackle, and crackle so strong it competes with the data.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the crackle is visible through both bands, the annotations do not collide with the bands or each other, the maker's mark clears the axis labels, and the headline difference matches the data.
