Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Rail Timetable" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a printed station timetable. Warm off-white paper, a rail-red header band with a white platform badge, condensed type and a grid of thin column rules, one per time period, with the values printed in the column heads like departure times.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Paper background: #F6F3EA. Header band and every "below target" highlight: #C8102E. Badge: #FFFFFF.
- Ink for the line, headings and strong rules: #1F2A36. Secondary text: #6A6558. Column rules and gridlines: #D8D2C4.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Roboto Condensed only. Header kicker 500, 12px uppercase, 2px letter-spacing, white at 85% opacity, words separated by " | ". Title 700, 28px white on the band, stating the finding. Subtitle 400, 16px #1F2A36 on the paper, giving measure, unit and period.
- Column heads: period 700 14px #1F2A36; value 400 12.5px #6A6558, or 700 #C8102E when below target. Axis labels 12.5 to 13px. Callouts 700 13px #C8102E with a 12px #6A6558 time range under them. Badge: "PLATFORM" 700 8.5px with 0.8px letter-spacing, number 700 30px, both #C8102E.

Layout:
- A full-width #C8102E band 92px tall. At x 40, y 18 a 56 x 56 white badge (rx 7) holding "PLATFORM" and a number. Kicker at x 116, y 38; title at x 116, y 70.
- Subtitle at x 40, y 124. Plot from x 96 to 904, one equal column per x category.
- Column-head table from y 146 to 192: a 1.5px ink rule on top, a 0.8px ink rule below, row labels "Hour" and "% on time" right-aligned left of the table. Columns below target get a #C8102E tint at 8% opacity in the head.
- Plot from y 214 to 504. Footer: a 1px #D8D2C4 rule at y 548, "Source: ..." at the left and a short note on the right at y 572, 12px #6A6558.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical 0.8px #D8D2C4 column rules at every column boundary, running from the table top down to the baseline (1.2px at the outer edges).
- Horizontal 0.8px #D8D2C4 gridlines every 5 units, labeled "85%" 13px right-aligned 10px left of the plot. A 1.5px #1F2A36 baseline.
- X labels as 24-hour clock times ("05:00") 12.5px under 5px ticks, every other column.
- Target: a 1.6px #C8102E dashed line (7 on, 5 off) across the plot, labeled "TARGET 92%" 700 13px with 1px letter-spacing at its right end on a paper-colored knockout.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 2.5px #1F2A36 polyline with straight segments through the column centers. Points r 4 paper fill with a 2px ink ring; points below target r 5 solid #C8102E. Shade the shortfall between the line and the target line with #C8102E at 18% opacity (clip to the area below the target).
- Bar chart: one slim bar per column (about 45% of the column width), solid #1F2A36, square corners; bars that miss the target are solid #C8102E. The same dashed target line, column rules and column-head values.

Labels and annotation:
- Name each shortfall under its dip ("Morning peak", "Evening peak, low 86.9%") in red with the clock range beneath.

Avoid: rounded bars, gradients, shadows, sans serif fonts other than Roboto Condensed, colors beyond red and ink, and 12-hour times.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the column-head values match the data exactly, every below-target value is red in both the table and the chart, and the target label does not collide with the line.
