Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Rack Elevation" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a data center rack elevation drawing on an operations console. Industrial and exact: charcoal steel, darker rack frames, equipment drawn as one-unit panels with status pips, blank space shown as perforated blanking plates.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #26292D. Rack frames: #16181B. Rails: #1D2023. Power plates: #303439 with a 0.8px #3C4147 edge.
- Category fills: cool gray #A3ACB5, muted teal #3B8C85, amber #D69A3C, dim red #A8433E (failed or faulty units only).
- Status pips: #5BD27A green on working units, #2A1414 (dark, unlit) on failed ones.
- Empty units: a 4px pattern of #2E3237 with #15171A perforation dots (r 0.8).
- Primary text: #E9ECEF. Secondary text: #8C949C. Rail numbers: #6E767F.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Roboto Condensed: title 700, 28px, stating the finding; subtitle 400, 15px, #8C949C; legend 13px; column names 700, 17px (the notable one in amber); footer 12px.
- Roboto Mono: eyebrow 500, 11.5px, 1.6px letter-spacing, uppercase; rail numbers 6.4px on every other unit; plate values 700, 12px with a 9.5px "PWR" caption; the used count under each rack 11px.

Layout:
- Eyebrow y 46, title y 80, subtitle y 104 at x 40; a compact legend (14 x 10 swatches, 3 columns by 2 rows) at the top right.
- Six racks spread evenly from x 40 to 920. Each rack is 116px wide: 16px rails on both sides and an 84px interior; 42 units at 8.2px per unit from y 160 down to about y 504. A 22px power plate sits on top inside a frame that wraps plate and rack (rx 3).
- Under each rack: its name and "used / 42 U". A hairline rule at y 570 with the source on the left and a method note on the right.

Axes and grid:
- No axes: the numbered rails are the scale, counting 1 at the bottom, labels centered in each rail.

Marks:
- Bar chart: vertical stacked bars that snap to whole units. Every unit is its own panel (interior width minus 2px, height 8.2px minus 1.2px gap, rx 0.8) so thin black gaps separate units. Stack from the bottom in a fixed category order, contiguous, with empty units above as perforated blanks. A 1.5px pip 5px in from the left of every occupied unit.
- Line chart: draw the racks as the frame, then plot each series as a 2px line in its category color running up through rack positions, with 4px square markers snapped to whole units and the same numbered rails as the y scale.

Avoid: gradients, glossy bevels, rounded bars, gridlines, bright colors on working units, red on anything that is not failed.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every stack snaps to whole units, the unit counts per rack add up to the labels, rail numbers stay legible and don't touch, and the title's counts match the data.
