Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Punch Card" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a tabulating punch card lying on a dark desk. The data is literally punched: each bar is a column of rectangular holes through which the desk shows. Precise, bureaucratic and tactile.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Desk (canvas background and every punched hole): #2B3036.
- Card: #EFE3C2 manila, with a very faint paper fiber (fractal noise, base frequency 0.7, brown tint at 9% alpha) and a soft drop shadow (dy 6, blur 9, black at 45%).
- Title stripe: #E9B7AE, a pale red band across the top of the card, with a 1.5px #6E2219 rule at 50% opacity along its lower edge. Title and stripe text: #6E2219.
- Card print (digits, column numbers, rules, labels): #7A5A43; the printed digits at 70% opacity.
- Highlight: #B5402F, only for the record category's value, its underline and its category label.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Space Mono everywhere, ALL CAPS. Title 24px 700 in the stripe, stating the finding. Stripe subtitle 13px 400 with measure, unit and the hole scale ("1 HOLE = 1,000 FORMS"); issuer and form number 12px 700 right-aligned on the same line.
- Interpreter values across the top of the card 15px 700, centered over their hole columns. Printed row digits 11px. Column numbers 6.5px. Category labels 13px 700. Group labels 11px with 1px letter-spacing. Source and card notice 10px.

Layout:
- Card from x 32 to 928 and y 40 to 568 with its top-left corner cut on a 30px diagonal. Desk visible around it.
- Stripe from the card top to y 124, title baseline y 80, subtitle y 106, text inset 52px from the card edge.
- Card field: 36 columns on a 23px pitch starting at x 72, ten printed rows 0 to 9 on a 32px pitch (row 0 at y 208). Every unpunched position shows its row digit; tiny column numbers 1 to 36 print between rows 0 and 1.
- Thin 0.9px printed field rules (70% opacity) at the field edges and between groups (for example a double rule between week 1 and week 2).
- Category labels below row 9 (y 536), group labels and the source line at y 556.

Axes and grid:
- The digit rows are the grid. No axis lines, no y labels: each column's exact value is printed on the interpreter line above it, and the stripe states the hole scale.

Marks:
- Bar chart: one card column per category, with gaps of two unpunched columns between categories. Punch value / scale holes starting at row 9 and working up. Holes are 13 x 22px rectangles with 1px corner radius, filled with the desk color so they read as cut through. Round values to whole holes and print the exact value above.
- Line chart: punch one hole per category at the row matching its value (row 9 = lowest), and join the hole centers with a 2px #7A5A43 printed line at 60% opacity; highlight the record hole's label in #B5402F.

Avoid: rounded cards, gradients on the card, colored bars, drawn bar fills, any axis line, lowercase text, and more than one highlighted category.

When you're done, render the chart and check that hole counts match the values at the stated scale, the corner cut is top-left, printed digits disappear exactly where holes are punched, and no interpreter value collides with its neighbor.
