Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "PSTH" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an electrophysiology rig's analysis screen. Charcoal, technical monospace, a dense cyan histogram that brightens the moment the stimulus arrives, and small precise annotations.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #121417. Primary text: #E6EAEE. Secondary text and the baseline line: #8A9096. Gridlines: #1F2327. Axis line and stimulus bar: #4A5057.
- Bars after the event: #3DD6E6 (bright cyan). Bars before the event: #2A98A6 (dimmer cyan).
- Event line: #FFFFFF.

Typography (Google Fonts): B612 Mono for everything, with one exception. B612 Mono sits periods, commas and colons at the left of a full-width cell, so "11.2" reads as "11. 2" and "4:00" as "4: 00". Any label containing a period, comma, colon or semicolon (decimals, clock times, "Source: ...") is set in proportional B612 from the same family, same size, weight and color; labels without that punctuation stay in B612 Mono.
- Title 700, 21px #E6EAEE, stating the finding with computed numbers. Subtitle 400, 12.5px #8A9096 with measure, unit, bin width and trial count.
- Legend, tick labels and axis titles 11.5px #8A9096. Event label 700, 11px uppercase with 1px letter-spacing in #FFFFFF. Annotations 12px (latency 700 #E6EAEE, peak 400 in #3DD6E6).

Layout:
- Title, subtitle, then a one-line legend with 12px square chips for the two bar colors and a short line for the baseline mean.
- Plot from about x 110 to 900, y 170 to 484. Y-axis title rotated at the far left; x-axis title right-aligned under the tick labels.
- Source line at the bottom-left, 11px #8A9096, stating how latency was computed.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #1F2327 horizontal gridlines at round steps with the ceiling rounded up above the tallest bar; 1px #4A5057 baseline; no vertical gridlines. Signed x ticks ("-100", "0", "+100").

Marks:
- Bar chart: a contiguous histogram, one bar per bin with only a 1.2px gap, square corners, starting at zero. Bars before zero in #2A98A6, at and after zero in #3DD6E6. A 1.2px #8A9096 horizontal line at the pre-event mean across the whole plot, drawn over the bars. A 1.4px #FFFFFF dashed line (5 on, 4 off) at the event time running 22px above the plot top, labeled to its left. A 5px #4A5057 bar under the axis shows the stimulus duration with a label at its end. A 1.3px #E6EAEE bracket with 7px ticks spans onset to response latency, labeled to the left of the event line. A 1px cyan leader and label mark the peak bin.
- Line chart: a 1.8px stepped line (step-after) in the same two cyans split at the event, with a 10% opacity #3DD6E6 fill under the post-event part, and the same event line, baseline mean, latency bracket and peak label.

Avoid: rounded bars, gaps wider than a hairline, smoothing the histogram, glows, gradients, and extra colors beyond the two cyans for data.

When you're done, render the chart and check that bar colors switch exactly at zero, the baseline line equals the mean of the pre-event bins, the latency bracket ends at the first bin that crosses the stated threshold, and the peak rate in the title equals peak count / trials / bin width.
