Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Projector Safe" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a conference slide designed for a washed-out projector at the back of a dim hall. Oversized type, few wide marks, a charcoal background that does not glare, and the legend folded into the title sentence.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1B1D21 (deep charcoal).
- Series, in this order: #F2F2F2 (warm white), #56B4E9 (sky blue), #F0B429 (amber). No other data colors.
- Secondary text: #B9BDC4. Gridlines: #30343B. Safe-area frame: #454A53 dashed, with #B9BDC4 corner brackets.
- The takeaway number uses #F0B429.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Nothing under 22px anywhere.
- Lexend for words: title 600, 31px on two lines; series words in the title 700 in their series color; subtitle 400, 22px #B9BDC4; category labels 500, 24px #F2F2F2; source 22px #B9BDC4.
- Barlow Condensed for numbers: tick labels 500, 24px #B9BDC4; value labels 600, 24px in the bar's color; takeaway number 700, 88px amber.

Layout:
- A safe-area frame inset 24px from every edge: a 1px #454A53 rectangle dashed 6 on, 6 off, with 3px #B9BDC4 corner brackets 26px long. Keep all content at least 32px inside it.
- Title top left (first line in #F2F2F2 at baseline 86, second line at 128), subtitle at 178.
- Top right corner: the takeaway number right-aligned, with a 22px caption under it ("Day 3 vs Day 1").
- Replace the legend with the title sentence: each series name appears in the title in its own color, bold, with a 5px rounded underline bar in the same color 10px below the baseline; connecting words stay #B9BDC4.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines at round values, 1.5px #30343B. Y tick labels right-aligned 16px left of the plot.
- One heavy baseline: 4px #F2F2F2. No y axis line.

Marks:
- Bar chart: grouped vertical bars, square-cornered and wide. Each group uses 70% of its slot (a 30% gap between groups) with 5px gaps between bars. A value label 9px above every bar in the bar's color. Category labels 38px below the baseline.
- Line chart: 6px lines in the three colors with round joins, 9px dots at every point, and a large end value label in the line's color; series named in colored words in the title just like the bars. At most three series.

Avoid: text under 22px, thin lines, pure white backgrounds, dense gridlines, legends in a box, more than three colors, low-contrast grays for data, and anything within 32px of the safe-area frame.

When you're done, render the chart and view it at one third size: every label must still be readable, the colored words in the title must be enough to identify each series, and the takeaway number must be arithmetically true.
