Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Profit Bridge" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the bridge slide in a finance team's board deck. Crisp, modern and exact: charcoal totals, green gains, muted red losses, every step signed and a bold callout on the answer.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF. Plot band: #F3F4F6 with 6px corner radius; gridlines #E5E7EB.
- Totals (start and end bars, title, baseline, connectors, callout): #2B2F36 (charcoal).
- Increases: #17826A (green). Decreases: #E8866B (muted red) for bars and #B9533F for their value text.
- Secondary text #6B7280; axis numbers and source #9CA3AF. Callout secondary text #8FE3BA.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Manrope throughout, tabular figures for numbers.
- Eyebrow 12px 700 uppercase, 2px letter-spacing, green. Title 28px 700, -0.4px letter-spacing, charcoal, stating the result. Subtitle 16px #6B7280 with entity, measure, period and unit.
- Step value labels 16px 700 in the step's color, signed ("+9.6", "−7.4" with a true minus sign). Category labels 14px 500 #6B7280 (totals 700 charcoal), wrapped to two lines when long. Legend 13px 500. Axis numbers 12px.

Layout:
- 64px margins. Eyebrow at y 60, title at y 96, subtitle at y 124. Legend (12px rounded squares for Total, Increase, Decrease) right-aligned on the eyebrow's line.
- Plot band from y 152 to the baseline at y 480, extending 16px beyond the first and last bars. Category labels start 24px under the baseline. Source at the bottom left.

Axes and grid:
- Y axis starts at zero. No y-axis line; a few 1px #E5E7EB gridlines with small 12px #9CA3AF numbers at the left edge. A 1.2px charcoal baseline.

Marks:
- Bar chart (waterfall): 56px bars (about 60% of the band) with 3px corners. Start and end totals rise from zero in charcoal; each step floats from the running level, green up, muted red down. A 1px charcoal dotted connector (2 on, 3 off) runs from each bar's closing level to the next bar. Totals get plain value labels; the final total instead gets a callout: a charcoal 112 x 52 rounded (8px) box with a small pointer, the total in 20px 800 white ("$52.7m") and the change in 12px 600 #8FE3BA ("+9.3% vs FY2025").
- Line chart: a 2.5px charcoal line of the running total with 5px dots, each segment colored green when rising and muted red when falling, signed step labels above rising points and below falling ones, and the same callout on the final point.

Avoid: 3D, gradients, drop shadows, unsigned step labels, a truncated y axis, and more than these three mark colors.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the steps sum exactly to the closing total, every connector lines up with both bars it joins, the callout's percentage is computed from the data, and no value label touches a neighboring bar.
