Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Pour Schedule" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a clean printed brew guide from a specialty roaster. Crisp white paper, a pale ceramic blue header band, a bookish serif title and technical figures, with steps you could follow at the kettle.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF. Header band: #DCE8F0 (pale ceramic blue), full width, 146px tall.
- Series, in order: #3D5A80 (slate blue), #C06C47 (terracotta), #7A8B3C (olive). The third series is also dashed (9 5) so it stays distinct under color-vision deficiency.
- Title ink: #22303F. Secondary text: #6B7682. Gridlines and footer rule: #E3E8EC. Baseline and ticks: #22303F.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Lora 600 at 32px #22303F for the title (sentence case, stating the finding); Lora 400 16px #6B7682 for the subtitle (measure, unit, context); Lora italic 13px for the source and 14px, in the series color, for lane names.
- Chakra Petch for every figure and label: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in #3D5A80; axis labels 12px #6B7682 with units ("160 g", "1:30"); end values 17px 700 in the series color followed by a 12px 400 #6B7682 suffix; lane tag letters and numbers 12px 700 white; small section heads 11px 600 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 94 and subtitle at y 124, all inside the blue band at x 56.
- Plot from x 104 to 780 and y 178 to 404. A right-hand column at x 812 holds each series' final value.
- Below the plot, a "POUR SCHEDULE" strip: one lane per series, 26px apart from y 474, each a 1px line in the series color at 35% opacity running to the series' end, with pill tags (18px tall, fully rounded, series color) spanning each step's duration (minimum 22px wide), tagged at their left end with "B" for a first preparatory step (the bloom) and 1, 2, 3 for the steps after it, a hollow 3.5px end circle and the series name in italic after it. Name each series so its stated count matches its numbered tags, and put a small 11px #6B7682 key ("B = BLOOM, THEN NUMBERED POURS") beside the strip heading.
- A 1px #E3E8EC rule at y 554, source at left and a small uppercase context note ("93 °C WATER · MEDIUM-FINE GRIND") at right, both at y 576.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 1px #E3E8EC, about five of them, with a 1.2px #22303F baseline. Y labels 12px to the left of the plot, right aligned.
- X ticks 5px down from the baseline every 30 seconds with m:ss labels 21px below.

Marks:
- Line chart: each series is a 2.6px staircase with round joins: a steep riser over each pour's duration, then a flat run while it draws down, ending in a 5.5px dot in the series color with a 2px white ring. From each dot a 1.2px dotted leader (dash 1.5 3) runs right to the value column, bending to the label's slot; labels are nudged at least 24px apart vertically.
- Bar chart: vertical bars built as stacked steps, square cornered, 36px wide, one colored segment per step with 2px white gaps between segments, the step number in Chakra Petch 12px 700 white inside each segment, and the total in the series color above the bar. Keep the schedule strip beneath.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, smoothing the staircases into curves, vertical gridlines, a boxed legend (the lanes and end labels do the labeling), and more than three series colors.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the risers are clearly steeper than the flat runs, end labels never overlap, lane tags line up with their risers on the time axis, each series name agrees with its count of numbered tags, and the stated finish-time difference matches the data.
