Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Postmark Night" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the overnight log at a postal hub. Deep navy like a night sky over the loading bays, faint wavy cancellation lines across the plot, thin cream and gold lines, and small pale blue postmark date stamps franking each notable point. Quiet, literary and precise.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0D1830 (deep navy).
- Cancellation lines: #1B2B4E, 1.4px, wavy.
- Main series: #F1E4C3 (cream). Comparison series: #A88B4E (dim gold), always dashed.
- Postmark stamps, the eyebrow and day labels: #9EC0E3 (pale blue); the single most important stamp switches to cream.
- Muted text, axis labels and baseline: #7F8CA8.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Libre Baskerville 700 for the title (25px cream, stating the finding, with curly apostrophes).
- Courier Prime for everything else: eyebrow 13px 700 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing in pale blue (place, log name, week); subtitle 15px 400 #7F8CA8 with measure, unit and date range; legend 14px in each series' color; y labels 13px; time labels 12px (00:00 in cream, 12:00 in muted); day labels 12px 700 uppercase with 1.2px letter-spacing in pale blue; stamp text 9px 700 (date) and 11px 700 (value); source and footnote 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 62, title at y 102, subtitle at y 132, a legend row right of center at y 164 (32px line swatch then label; the average swatch dashed).
- Plot from x 88 to 900, y 196 to 500. Twelve wavy cancellation lines 26px apart run across the full plot width (a repeating quadratic wave, 40px wavelength, 6px amplitude) behind the data.
- Footer at y 578: "Source: ..." left and a right-aligned note explaining the stamps.

Axes and grid:
- No straight gridlines: the cancellation waves are the only texture. Y labels (0, 20, 40, 60) right-aligned at x 72.
- A 1px muted baseline. Time axis in 24-hour time: 8px ticks at 00:00 and 4px ticks at 12:00, labels 22px under the baseline, and the day name with date centered under each day at y 544.

Marks:
- Line chart: the main series as a 2px cream smooth (monotone) line; the comparison as a 1.8px gold line dashed 6 on 5 off. Each day's (or period's) peak gets a 3px cream dot, a 0.8px pale blue dotted leader (2 on 2 off) up to a circular postmark 34px above the point: a navy-filled 22px circle with a 1.6px pale blue ring, a 0.7px inner ring at 17px, the date as "18.IX" (day plus Roman month) and the peak value inside, rotated a few degrees (between -10 and 10, varied per stamp) as if hand-franked. The headline peak's stamp is cream instead of blue.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered cream bars at 45% of the band width for the main series with the comparison as a 2px dashed gold tick across each band at its value; the tallest bar (or the one the title names) carries a cream postmark and the others blue, sitting 34px above the bar tops.

Avoid: glows, gradients, filled areas, heavy gridlines, bright or saturated colors, more than two series, and em dashes.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the stamps never overlap each other, the title, or the legend, that the dashed average stays distinguishable from the solid line where they converge, and that the stamp values match the data.
