Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Poison Register" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an old dispensary's poisons register seen through a fluted bottle-green glass bottle. Dark, antique and careful, with one pale gold line and a cream caution banner.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0F241C deep bottle green, with a horizontal glass sheen (linear gradient: black 35% at the left edge, #3E7A5E 14% at 28%, clear at 50%, #3E7A5E 10% at 78%, black 40% at the right edge).
- Line, baseline, ticks and markers: #E0C878 pale gold.
- Caution banner: #F1E6C8 cream with #B3261E red lettering and rules.
- Title: #F1E6C8. Secondary text: #9DB3A6. Gridlines: #2A4A3C.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Playfair Display SC 700 for the title, 33px, cream, centered, stating the finding.
- Old Standard TT for everything else: "CAUTION" 15px 700 with 5px letter-spacing in red; subtitle 16px italic #9DB3A6; axis numbers 13px; decade labels 15px cream; diamond numerals 13px 700 gold; note text 13px cream with a 13px italic second line; source 12px italic.

Layout:
- Centered header: a 184 x 28px cream ribbon banner with notched (swallowtail) ends and two thin red rules inside it, then the title, the subtitle, and a small gold ornament (two 50px rules around a 10px diamond).
- Plot about 96 to 900px wide. Below it a 1px #2A4A3C rule and a four-column key of numbered notes. Source at the bottom right.

Texture:
- Fluted ribs behind the plot only: a repeating 22px pattern of an 11px band of #1D3D2F at 55% opacity with a 2px highlight of #3F7058 at 35%, extending 20px beyond the plot on each side. It must stay faint enough that gridlines and the line read clearly.

Axes and grid:
- Five 0.8px #2A4A3C gridlines; a 1.2px gold baseline with 6px gold ticks every decade. No y-axis line.

Marks:
- Line chart: one 2.2px #E0C878 line with straight segments over a 6px gold underglow at 16% opacity. Key points get a 3.2px gold dot, a thin 0.8px gold leader and a numbered diamond (22px, #0F241C fill, 1.3px gold stroke) about 26px above (or below, when above would crowd the title).
- Bar chart: narrow square-cornered bars in #E0C878 at 85% opacity with a 1px brighter top edge, standing on the gold baseline over the rib texture; numbered diamonds float above the bars that carry notes.

Labels and annotation:
- The note key repeats each numbered diamond (16px, outline only) with a two-line note: a cream first line and an italic #9DB3A6 second line. Every number in the notes must come from the data.

Avoid: multiple line colors, bright green, modern sans-serif type, heavy textures, drop shadows on text, and skulls or other gimmicky poison imagery.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the rib texture stays in the background, the diamonds don't cover the line or each other, the title's numbers are true for the data, and the caution banner is centered over the title.
