Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Platform Sign" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: station wayfinding. A cool gray wall, a navy header sign with an arrow pictogram, and each bar as a white enamel sign plate with a thin navy inner border and a round colored route bullet. Calm, legible, municipal.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Backdrop: #E4E7EB. Navy for the header plate, plate borders, values, category names and the zero post: #1C2B4A. Plates: #FFFFFF.
- Route bullet colors (identity, not data): #8E4FA3, #00A3B4, #E0712A, #F2A900 (use a navy letter on this one), #6D7C8A, #00A06B, #0072CE, #E03A3E.
- Secondary text: #5B6675. Gridlines: #CDD2D9.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Barlow Semi Condensed. Title 700, 29px white inside the header plate. Subtitle 500, 17px #5B6675. Category names 600, 17px navy, right-aligned. Values 700, 20px navy. Bullet letters 700, 16px. Axis labels 500, 14px. Annotations 600, 14px navy. Footer 500, 13px.

Layout:
- Header plate from x 40 to 920, y 26 to 98: navy, rx 10, soft shadow, with an inner 1.2px white hairline (55% opacity) inset 6px (rx 6). Inside: a 44px white rounded square (rx 6) holding a navy right-pointing arrow (5px stroke, round caps); the title right of it; at the right end a white pill (30px tall, fully rounded) with a small navy clock icon and the unit word ("minutes").
- Subtitle at x 40, y 134. Plot from x 214 to 884 starting at y 172 with 44px rows.
- Footer at y 574: "Source: ..." left, a short definition of the measure right.

Axes and grid:
- Light 1px #CDD2D9 vertical gridlines at round values, labels centered 20px below the last row. No axis box.
- A 5px navy "sign post" (rx 1.5) at zero running the full height of the rows, the plates hanging from it.
- A reference or target as a 1.6px navy dashed vertical (5 on, 4 off) drawn behind the plates so it shows in the gaps, labeled at its top in 600 14px.

Marks:
- Bar chart (horizontal preferred): each bar is a plate 34px tall, #FFFFFF, rx 7, with a drop shadow (dy 1.5, blur 1.4, navy at 28%), and a 1.4px navy inner border inset 3.5px with rx 4. At the plate's left end a route bullet: circle r 11.5 in the category color with a white letter. The value right-aligned 13px inside the plate's right end. Sort bars by value. For vertical bars, stand the plates on a navy post at the baseline with the bullet at the bottom and the value at the top.
- Line chart: draw a 4px navy line with round joins; each point is a white plate-style marker (a 34 x 22 px rounded white rect with a 1.4px navy inner border) holding the value in 700 14px navy, and each series starts with its route bullet. Keep the header plate, gray backdrop and gridlines.

Avoid: filled colored bars (color lives only in the bullets), gradients, heavy axis lines, serif fonts, and values outside the plates.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the shortest plate still fits its bullet and value, every bullet letter is centered and readable, and the dashed reference never crosses a value.
