Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Planting Palette" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a garden designer's planting schedule. Warm, botanical and orderly, like a printed plant list in a landscape proposal: soft grouped colors, italic Latin names, generous rows.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F7F2E7 (warm cream).
- Group colors: #D2A94A (straw, first group), #9A86C8 (lavender), #8DAA84 (sage), #2F5B3C (deep green). A fifth group, if needed, in #C9826B.
- Ink: #2F2A22. Secondary text and Latin names: #7A7162. Grid, group separators and footer rule: #E2D9C6.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Lora for the title (600, 30px, ink, sentence case, stating the finding), common names (14px regular, ink), Latin or secondary names (italic 12.5px #7A7162, 7px after the common name), legend names (14px) and small italic notes (12px).
- Nunito Sans for the eyebrow (11.5px 700 uppercase, 2.4px letter-spacing, #7A7162), subtitle (15px #7A7162), all figures (value labels 13px 700 ink, axis labels 12px, legend totals 13px 700 #7A7162), source (12px) and a drawing number (11px 700, 2px letter-spacing).

Layout:
- 48px margins. Eyebrow, title and subtitle at top left, then a legend row of round 7px-radius color chips, each followed by the group name and the group total.
- Label column right-aligned at x 380, bars from x 394 to about 842, 23.5px row pitch. Rows are grouped by color group (sorted within the group), with a 12px gap and a 1px #E2D9C6 separator between groups.
- Footer rule near the bottom with the source line on the left and "DRAWING PP-02" on the right.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical 0.8px #E2D9C6 dashed grid lines (2 on, 4 off) at round values, a solid 1.2px line at zero, and small value labels under the plot. No y axis line.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal 13px bars with a flat start at zero and a fully rounded (pill) end, colored by group. Value labels 8px past the bar end. Very small bars keep at least 3px of visible length.
- Line chart: one smooth 2.5px line per group in the group colors with round caps, 4px dots with a cream 1.5px ring at each point, direct labels at the line ends in 14px Lora with the Latin or secondary name in italic beneath, the same chip legend and cream page.

Avoid: harsh saturated colors, square-cornered bars, bold italics, borders around the chart, and a separate boxed legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the Latin names are italic, rows in each group share one color, the legend totals add up, and the title percentage matches the data.
