Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Pixel Arcade" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the title screen of an 8-bit arcade game. Everything is built from chunky 4px pixels in a small fixed palette, with a HUD across the top and bricks for the ground.

Colors (use these exact values; no other colors):
- Background: #140C1C. Dark navy (grid dots, stars, HUD rule, bar shadow): #30346D. Slate (secondary text): #8595A1.
- Bars: #597DCE blue, highlight #6DC2CA. Emphasis bar: #D04648 red, highlight #D27D2C, shadow #442434.
- Gold (HI-SCORE, coin, emphasis value): #DAD45E. Text and sprite white: #DEEED6. Bricks: #854C30 with #442434 mortar and a #D27D2C lip.

Typography (Google Fonts): Press Start 2P only, always at multiples of 4px so pixels stay crisp (quote the family name: 'Press Start 2P').
- Title 24px #DEEED6, uppercase. Subtitle 12px #8595A1. HUD 16px. Value labels 16px. Category labels 16px. Axis labels and footer 12px.

Layout:
- HUD row at the top: "1UP" in red and a six-digit score in white on the left, "HI-SCORE" in gold and a score in white in the center, three pixel hearts and a pixel coin with "x08" on the right. A 4px navy rule under it.
- Title and subtitle below the HUD, left aligned. Plot below, standing on a ground of two courses of offset bricks (32 x 16px bricks, 4px mortar). Category labels under the ground. Footer: "SOURCE: ILLUSTRATIVE DATA" in slate at bottom left, a blinking-style "PRESS START" in gold at bottom right.
- A few single navy 4px "stars" scattered in empty background.

Axes and grid:
- Snap every coordinate to the 4px grid and use shape-rendering: crispEdges. Gridlines are rows of single 4px navy dots every 12px. Y labels right-aligned left of the plot. No axis lines; the brick ground is the baseline.

Marks:
- Bar chart: square-cornered bars 56px wide with a 4px black outline like a sprite. Inside: base color, a 4px highlight column on the left and a 4px highlight row on top, one 4px white glint pixel in the top-left corner, then on the right an 8px checkerboard dither (4px cells of base and shadow) followed by an 8px solid shadow column. Value above each bar. The most important bar uses the red set and gets a pixel skull (8 x 8 sprite) above its gold value label.
- Line chart: a stair-stepped line built from 4px squares (no diagonals, no anti-aliasing) in #6DC2CA with a #30346D drop row 4px beneath it, 8px square markers at data points with a white glint pixel, a second series in #D04648. Label each line's end in its color, and mark the key point with the skull sprite.
- Sprites (hearts, coin, skull) are drawn as 4px rects from small pixel maps.

Effects (subtle): 1px black scanlines at 14% opacity every 4px over everything, and a radial vignette from transparent at 70% to black at 45% at the corners.

Avoid: gradients (except the vignette), rounded corners, anti-aliased diagonals or curves, blur and glow, colors outside the palette, and font sizes that aren't multiples of 4.

When you're done, render the chart at 2x and zoom in: every edge should land on the 4px grid, the dither should read as a checkerboard, and the text should be crisp.
