Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Pigment Cost" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an old color house's price list reprinted on deep ink blue. Each bar is a slab of flat artist pigment with a thin dry-brushed top edge, labeled with its pigment index code in small monospace like a jar label.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #10162A (deep ink blue).
- Pigment fills, one per category: #4A74D8 (cobalt blue), #D8402E (cadmium red), #F2B72A (cadmium yellow), #2E8A6E (viridian), #5A5FD6 (ultramarine), #B4552C (burnt sienna), #EDE8DC (titanium white), #806650 (raw umber). Where categories are not pigments, assign these in this order so neighbors stay distinct.
- Text #EEF0F6; secondary text #8C93A8; eyebrow and index codes #C9A96A (brass); gridlines #1F2740; baseline #3A4462; gridline value labels #59617A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cormorant 600 for the title, 38px, #EEF0F6, lining figures (font-variant-numeric: lining-nums), stating the finding.
- Nunito Sans for text: eyebrow 11.5px 700 uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing in brass; subtitle 15px; value labels 15px 700 (the leading bar 17px 800); category names 12.5px 600; source 12px, and an italic 12px note at the right.
- DM Mono 500 12px with 0.6px letter-spacing for index codes (e.g. "PR108") in brass; DM Mono 400 11px for gridline values.

Layout:
- 60px side margins. Eyebrow baseline 58, title 104, subtitle 134.
- Plot from x 60 to 900, y 196 to 470. Under each bar: the code 22px below the baseline and the name 42px below.
- A 1px #1F2740 rule at y 540, then the source at left and the note right-aligned, baseline 566.

Axes and grid:
- No y-axis line. Horizontal gridlines 1px #1F2740 at round values with their labels ("$100") right-aligned at the right end, 6px above each line. Baseline 1px #3A4462.

Marks:
- Bar chart: flat, fully opaque bars about 60% of the band (62px at 8 bars), square bottom corners, sorted descending. The top edge is a dry-brush line: a ragged edge jittered about 1.6px up or down every 3px, with a slightly deeper notch every fifth step; seven thin bristle streaks (0.7 to 1.5px, round caps, alternating white at 22% and black at 18% opacity) running 8 to 24px down from the top (never more than 60% of a short bar); and three tiny stray bristle tips 1 to 5px above the edge in the bar's own color. Value labels ("$412") centered 12px above each bar.
- Line chart: a 4px line in cadmium red with the same dry-brush feel (a second 1px offset stroke at 30% opacity to suggest bristles), square pigment-chip markers (10 x 10, one pigment color per point if the categories are pigments, else the line color), values above points, codes and names under the x axis as for bars.

Avoid: gradients, glossy highlights, rounded tops, drop shadows, a legend (names and codes sit under the bars), and any bar that does not start at zero.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the brushed edges read as texture but never change a bar's apparent height by more than 2px, dark pigments stay visible on the ink blue, codes line up in one row, and the title's multiple is computed from the data.
