Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Phosphor Terminal" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an old green-phosphor CRT running a command-line monitoring tool. Everything glows slightly.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Screen: #031006. Primary phosphor (main series, header): #39FF6A. Dim phosphor (secondary text, axis labels): #1FA84A. Frame and gridlines: #146B2E.
- Alert or second series: #FFB000 (amber). A third series, if needed: #7FDBFF (cyan phosphor).

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Header: VT323, 34px, #39FF6A, written as a shell command with a leading "> " (for example "> latency --service api --window 24h"), followed by a solid block cursor (a 14 x 26px #39FF6A rectangle).
- Everything else: IBM Plex Mono. Subtitle 14px dim, legend 14px 500 in the series colors formatted as "[■] P50", axis labels 13px dim, alert annotations 14px 500, footer 12px dim written like program output ("src: illustrative data · exit 0").

Layout:
- Header and subtitle top left, legend top right. The plot sits inside a dashed frame (#146B2E, 6px dashes).

Axes and grid:
- Dotted horizontal gridlines (#146B2E, 1px dots, 6px gaps, round caps). Y labels right-aligned outside the frame. X labels are times like 00:00 or short uppercase tokens.

Marks:
- Line chart: 2px lines with straight segments and round joins, no smoothing. Draw the amber series first so the green one sits on top. Label each line at its right end in its own color.
- Bar chart: build bars from stacked 4px-tall segments with 2px gaps (like a text-mode progress meter), in #39FF6A, with the value at the top in dim phosphor.
- Mark the most important outlier with a short horizontal amber leader and a message such as "!! 382 ms @ 14:30".

Effects (apply in this order):
1. Glow: put all text and marks in a group with a Gaussian blur of about 3.5px merged under the source graphic. Use a user-space filter region covering the whole canvas so thin lines don't lose their glow.
2. Scanlines: over everything, a repeating pattern of 2px black stripes at 32% opacity every 4px.
3. Vignette: a radial gradient from transparent at 55% to black at 75% opacity at the corners.

Avoid: color fills, rounded corners, proportional fonts, anything that looks like a modern UI.

When you're done, render the chart and confirm the text is still crisp enough to read through the scanlines and vignette.
