Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Permit Zones" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a residential permit parking sign turned into a chart. Dark forest green enamel, a crisp white rounded frame, white lettering, and a small sign plate in the corner. Civic, calm and highly legible.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #102219 (sign green) for the whole canvas.
- Frame, primary series, zone badges and title: #FFFFFF.
- Comparison series: #86EFAC (space green).
- Highlight for ratios above 1.00: #FDE68A (over yellow). Other ratios and secondary text: #9DB8A8. Gridlines: #1F3A2B.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Overpass for the title (800, 27px, white, stating the finding), subtitle (400, 15.5px, #9DB8A8), legend (600, 14px), badge letters (800, 19px, sign green) and the sign plate (800).
- Overpass Mono for the header (600, 12px uppercase, 1.2px letter-spacing), axis numbers (400, 12.5px) and the ratio labels (700, 15px).

Layout:
- A white 3px frame inset 16px from every edge with an 18px corner radius, like the border of an enamel sign.
- 52px inner left margin. Header at y 62, title at 104, subtitle at 132, legend row at y 172.
- Sign plate top right (x 786 to 908, y 40 to 136): white, 8px radius, with an inner 2px sign-green outline inset 6px, "PERMIT ONLY" 11.5px, the zone range "A–H" 36px and "ZONES" 10px mono.
- Plot from x 100 to 908 and y 214 to 478; source line at y 560 inside the frame.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #1F3A2B gridlines at round values (none at zero), mono labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot.
- 1.5px white baseline. Each category is a white 30 x 30 px badge (5px radius) 12px below the baseline with its letter in sign green.

Marks:
- Bar chart: grouped 32px columns with a 4px gap, 3px top radius, square at the base. Primary series solid white, comparison solid #86EFAC. Above each pair, 12px over the taller column, the ratio (primary / comparison) to two decimals in mono: over yellow when above 1.00, #9DB8A8 otherwise.
- Line chart: a 3px white line for the primary series and a 3px #86EFAC line for the comparison, 5px-radius dots in the page color with 2.5px strokes, the gap between them shaded #FDE68A at 15% where the primary is higher, zone badges along the x axis, and the ratio in mono above each point pair.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, glows, thin fonts, extra hues, a boxed legend, and anything that crosses the white frame.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every ratio is arithmetically right and colored by the 1.00 threshold, the title's count matches the data, the badges sit centered under their pairs, and everything stays inside the white frame.
