Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Pennant Race" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a late-season standings page on a sports network's night broadcast. Deep navy, a chunky slab headline, a tangle of muted lines and one team blazing in gold. Tense and clear.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #0C1B33 (deep navy).
- Highlight series, eyebrow, key numbers and the boxed stat: #FFC300 (pennant gold). Only one series is gold.
- Other series, muted: #7C98C4 (steel blue), #C08A6B (clay), #6FA89B (sage), #B48EAD (mauve).
- Primary text #E8EDF5, secondary text #8C9AB3, gridlines #1E3050. The future or remaining zone is #FFFFFF at 5% opacity.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Alfa Slab One 400 for the title (30px #E8EDF5, stating the finding) and the boxed stat numeral (44px gold).
- Barlow with tabular figures for everything else: eyebrow 600 13px uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in gold; subtitle 16px #8C9AB3; axis labels 13px (the top "Lead" label 700 in #E8EDF5); month labels 600 12px uppercase 1.4px letter-spacing; series labels 600 13px uppercase 1px letter-spacing in the series color (the highlight 700 15px); table columns 13px; column heads and zone labels 700 11px uppercase 1.4 to 1.6px letter-spacing; notes 13px.

Layout:
- 48px margins. Eyebrow, title and subtitle at top left; a 128 x 94px box with 6px radius and a 1.6px gold outline at top right holding "MAGIC NUMBER", the numeral and a small "25 games left" line.
- Plot from x 88 to x 790, y 176 to y 520. The last stretch of the x range (the remaining schedule) is shaded, bounded by a 1px dashed #8C9AB3 "TODAY" line, and labeled "REMAINING" at its foot.
- Direct labels inside the shaded zone at each line's current value, dodged to at least 26px apart, with a small dot on the today line. To their right a two-column mini table (W-L and GB) with the highlight row in gold. No legend.
- Footer: "Source: ..." at left and a one-line definition of the boxed stat at right, both 12px #8C9AB3.

Axes and grid:
- Inverted y: zero ("Lead") at the top, deficits increasing downward, 1px #1E3050 gridlines every 4 units. X in months with 6px ticks and left-aligned month labels. No axis lines.

Marks:
- Line chart: stepped-looking straight segments at daily resolution, 1.8px at 90% opacity for muted series; the highlight 3.4px gold drawn last over a 7px navy casing so it cuts through the tangle. Mark the highlight's extreme point with a 4.5px gold dot and a 1px gold leader to a two-line note (gold first line, #E8EDF5 second).
- Bar chart: horizontal bars of games behind hanging from a "Lead" line at the top of each row, 16px thick with 2px radius, muted series colors and the highlight team in gold, with the same shaded remaining zone and the W-L and GB table at right.

Avoid: a legend box, glow effects, more than one bright color, thick lines for the muted teams, and a second y axis.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the leader sits at zero along the top, the magic number equals 163 minus the leader's wins minus the second-place team's losses (for a 162-game season), direct labels do not overlap, and the gold line reads first at thumbnail size.
