Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Particle Detector" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a figure from a particle physics collaboration's results talk. Data points with error bars, a fitted model, a shaded signal window, a ratio panel underneath and the unmistakable "Preliminary" tag. Rigorous and restrained on a dark slide.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #090C14.
- Data: #FF9D3C (orange) for the step outline and ratio points, with a #FF9D3C fill at 16% under the steps; error bars and bin-center dots in #FFD2A1.
- Fit or model: #F2F4F8 (near white).
- Signal region: #3B82F6 at 20% opacity, full height in both panels (the legend swatch at 45%).
- Frames and ticks: #6B7488. Gridlines #171D2B. Labels #AEB6C6, title #F4F6FA, source #687186.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- IBM Plex Sans: title 600, 25px at x 48, baseline 44, stating the finding; subtitle 400, 14px, #AEB6C6; the tag "Halcyon Preliminary" 17px italic, the experiment name 700 and "Preliminary" 400 in #AEB6C6.
- Fira Code for everything else: tick labels 12px, axis titles 12px ("Events / 0.1 MeV" rotated; "Deposited energy (MeV)" right aligned under the ratio panel), legend 12px #E3E7EF, fit parameters 12px, and the event counter 500, 13px orange inside a 1px orange outlined box (3px radius).

Layout:
- Main panel x 112 to 900, y 104 to 420 with a 1.2px #6B7488 frame; ratio panel directly below at y 440 to 526, same width and frame, sharing the x axis. Inward ticks (7px) every major step on both panels; x labels only under the ratio panel.
- The tag, run and luminosity line, event counter, legend and fit parameters (mu, sigma, chi-square/ndf computed from the data) stack in the emptiest corner of the main panel, left aligned on one x, with a 1px #252C3D rule before the parameters.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines 1px #171D2B in the main panel only; y labels right aligned 10px left of the frame. The ratio panel shows 0.8, 1.0 and 1.2 with a 1px #F2F4F8 dashed (4 3) line at 1.0 at 70% opacity.

Marks:
- Bar chart: a histogram drawn as one continuous outline step (1.8px #FF9D3C, miter joins) over a 16% orange fill, with a vertical sqrt(N) error bar (1.3px #FFD2A1) and a 2px dot at each bin center. The fit runs over it as a smooth 2px #F2F4F8 curve. The ratio panel plots data divided by fit as 2.4px orange dots with the scaled error bars.
- Line chart: draw the series as orange points (2.4px radius) with vertical error bars, the model or trend as the 2px near-white curve, and the ratio panel underneath as data over model in the same way. Shade any highlighted range in the signal blue.

Avoid: filled solid bars, gaps between bins, drop shadows, glows, gradients, and more than one warm color.

When you're done, render the chart and check that both panels share the x scale exactly, error bars are visible in low-count bins, the stated event count equals the sum of the bins, and the chi-square/ndf is computed from the drawn data.
