Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Park Poster" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a flat, four-color screenprinted national park poster. Bold slab lettering, layered ridge silhouettes, a flat sun, no gradients and no shadows. Every shape is a solid ink.

Colors (use these exact values, all fully opaque, no gradients):
- Ground: #EFE1C1 (sand) for the canvas; also used as the "paper" color for text on colored bands and for gridlines drawn over the sky.
- Pine: #2F5A45 for the data line, the near ridge, axis labels, the subtitle and the bottom strip. Two extra flat tints of pine for ridge layering: #6F8F74 (far, lighter) and #20402F (nearest, darker).
- Sky: #7FB3C8 for the plot panel background.
- Brick: #A8402F for the top title band and for the one highlighted point (record or latest value) and its label.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Josefin Slab 700 for the headline: 40px, uppercase, 1.5px letter-spacing, sand on the brick band, centered, stating the finding ("VISITS HAVE NEARLY TRIPLED SINCE 1990"). Also for big value labels (24px brick for the highlight, 18px pine for the first value) and the "EST. 1932" strip text (17px, 3px letter-spacing).
- Josefin Sans 600 for everything small: the eyebrow above the headline (15px, 6px letter-spacing, sand, flanked by two 80px 1.5px sand rules), the subtitle (14px uppercase, 2.5px letter-spacing, pine), axis labels (13px, 1px letter-spacing, pine) and footer text (11px uppercase, 2px letter-spacing, sand).

Layout:
- A full-width brick band from the top edge to y 140 holding the eyebrow (baseline 46) and the headline (baseline 104).
- Subtitle on sand at y 178, left-aligned with the y-axis labels, stating measure, unit and period.
- Plot panel from x 92 to 900, y 194 to 482, filled flat sky.
- A full-width pine strip from y 530 to the bottom edge: "SOURCE: ILLUSTRATIVE DATA" on the left, a centered sunburst glyph (16 sand rays, alternating 22 and 18px long from a 12px radius, 2.2px round caps, around an 8px brick disc) with "EST." to its left and the founding year to its right, and a small place fact ("ELEV. 1,480 M") on the right.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines. Horizontal gridlines are 1.2px sand lines drawn on the sky and hidden behind the ridge fills.
- Y labels 13px pine, right-aligned 12px left of the panel. X labels every 5 years, 24px below the panel; the first label start-anchored, the last end-anchored.

Marks:
- Line chart: a smooth (monotone) 5px pine line with round joins. Fill beneath it to the baseline with #6F8F74 as the far ridge, then two nearer ridges that reuse the same profile flattened toward the baseline (42% of the height in #2F5A45, 16% in #20402F), so the area reads as layered mountains. A flat sand sun (r 34) sits in an empty corner of the sky. Highlight one point with a brick dot (r 9, 3px sand ring), a 1.5px brick leader to the top of the panel and a two-line label: "RECORD 2023" (Josefin Sans 700 13px, 2px letter-spacing) over the value in Josefin Slab 24px. Put event notes inside the ridge in sand Josefin Sans 700 11px.
- Bar chart: flat pine bars, square corners, about 60% of the band, standing on the sky panel; the highlighted bar in brick with its value above in Josefin Slab 24px brick. Behind the bars, draw one flat #6F8F74 ridge silhouette rising no higher than a third of the panel as scenery. Keep the sand gridlines and the sun.

Avoid: gradients, transparency, drop shadows, thin hairline typography, more than one accent, rounded bars and any photographic texture.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the headline fits the band with margin, every fill is a flat opaque color, the highlight label does not touch its dot, and the headline claim is arithmetically true.
