Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Parcel Label" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a courier shipping label stuck on a cardboard box. Blunt, high-contrast, utilitarian: thick black rules, reversed headers, a barcode, a routing code and one safety-yellow highlight. Everything is legible from across a warehouse.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Cardboard behind the label: #C49A6C (kraft), with a faint horizontal fiber texture (fractal noise, base frequency 0.55 x 0.08, dark brown at 22% alpha).
- Label: #FFFFFF. All rules, bars, text and reversed bands: #111111 (label black).
- Safety yellow: #FFC700, used for exactly one bar (the largest or most important category, with a 2px black outline so it holds on white) and the PRIORITY tag text.
- Secondary text: #6B6B6B.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- IBM Plex Sans Condensed for all words: title 34px 700 black stating the finding; subtitle 17px 400 #6B6B6B with measure, unit and period; category names 17px 500 (700 for the highlighted one); value labels 20px 700 black; reversed headers and small field labels 11 to 14px 700 uppercase with 2 to 2.4px letter-spacing; the big region code 50px 700.
- IBM Plex Mono (500 and 600) for codes and machine figures: the barcode's human-readable line (13px, 2.2px letter-spacing), the routing code (22px 600), row codes (12px 600 #6B6B6B) and the share column (14px 500).

Layout:
- The label is a white rectangle inset 32px left and right and 24px top and bottom, lifted off the cardboard with a soft shadow (dy 4, blur 6, #3A2A16 at 35%), with a 6px black border drawn just inside its edge.
- Top section (to y 150): a black tag with the sender name reversed in white, a "FROM: ..." line in gray, the title and subtitle; a 4px vertical rule at x 700 separates a right cell holding a small "REGION" label, a 156 x 56 px box with a 4px black stroke containing the big region code, and a black "PRIORITY" band under it with yellow letters (4px letter-spacing).
- Barcode section (y 150 to 232), divided by 4px horizontal rules: a 400px wide, 40px tall barcode of black bars 1.5 to 4.5px wide with 1.5 to 3px gaps and its mono code line under it; a 2px vertical rule; then "ROUTE" with the routing code, a gray total line, and a right-aligned "PIECE 1 OF 1".
- A 28px black band with reversed column headers (category, measure with unit, SHARE), then the chart rows, then a 4px rule and a footer row with "Source: ..." left and "HANDLE WITH CARE / THIS SIDE UP" right.

Axes and grid:
- No numeric axis and no gridlines: every bar carries its value. Rows are separated by 1px black rules running the full label width; a 2px vertical black rule marks the bars' zero line.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal square-cornered bars, sorted largest first, one per 33px row with 6px of white above and below, solid black except the one yellow bar. Category name at the left edge, its short mono code right-aligned just before the zero line, the value 10px past the bar end, and the share of total right-aligned in the last column.
- Line chart: a 3px black line with square caps and straight segments over the same ruled rows turned into horizontal gridlines, 7px square black markers at each point, the highest (or most important) point as a 12px yellow square with a 2px black outline and its value in 20px 700 beside it; x labels in mono 12px under a 2px black baseline.

Avoid: rounded corners anywhere, gradients on the label, more than one yellow mark, thin or gray bars, decorative icons, and em dashes.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the shares add to 100%, the bars are sorted, the yellow bar is the one the title names, the black rules line up at the label edges, and no value label runs into the share column.
