Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Paper Cut" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a handmade cut-paper illustration for a community newsletter or a nonprofit annual report. Warm, tactile and calm: muted earthy sheets of paper layered on a cream table, each with a soft shadow that shows its depth.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Ground: #F4EDE1 (cream) for the whole canvas.
- Paper sheets, in stacking order from the bottom: #4F5B32 (deep olive), #C4704F (terracotta), #E3C07F (sand), #7F9E6E (sage). With more than four series add #A8B89A and #B98B5E.
- Title card: #FBF7EE. Ink for titles and emphasis: #3A4224 (dark olive). Secondary text: #6F6A55.
- Shadows: #2E2A18. Edge highlights: white at 50% opacity.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Karla throughout. Title 700, 24px, #3A4224, sentence case, stating the finding. Eyebrow 700, 11px, uppercase, 2px letter-spacing, #6F6A55, preceded by a 28 x 4 px terracotta bar. Subtitle 400, 15px, #6F6A55 with measure, unit and period.
- Axis labels 400, 13px, #6F6A55. Series labels 700, 15px, 0.3px letter-spacing. Callouts 700, 13px, #3A4224. Source 12px.

Layout:
- The title block sits on a deckled paper card at the top left (about x 44 to 760, y 30 to 142): a rectangle whose edges wobble by up to 1.3px every 7px, like torn paper, with a drop shadow (dx 2, dy 3, blur 4, #2E2A18 at 22%). Eyebrow, title and subtitle inside it with 20px padding.
- Plot area about x 100 to 884, y 190 to 510. Source line bottom right at y 584.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines. Y labels right-aligned 14px left of the plot. Gridlines are pencil marks: 1px #4F5B32 at 22% opacity, dashed 2 on 5 off, at 4 to 5 round values.
- Category labels 28px below the baseline, centered.

Marks:
- Line chart: draw it as a stacked area where each series is a separate sheet of paper. Paint from the back: the sheet for the full cumulative total first, then each lower cumulative total on top, so every band's upper edge is a smooth monotone-cubic cut. Each sheet extends 14px past the left and right plot edges and ends flat on the baseline. Every sheet gets a soft ambient shadow (dx 0, dy -1.5, blur 4.5, #2E2A18 at 34%) that darkens the sheet behind its cut edge. Trace each top edge again 1.2px lower as a 1.3px white stroke at 50% opacity, a highlight catching the paper's edge. For a single-series line chart, use one sage sheet under the line and a second terracotta sheet for a comparison or target.
- Bar chart: each bar is a paper strip in the same colors with the same ambient shadow and a 1.3px white highlight along its top edge, square corners, about 60% of the band width; stacked bars are layered sheets exactly like the areas.
- Label every band directly at its thickest point in 15px Karla 700: cream (#F4EDE1) text on deep olive, #FBF7EE on terracotta, #3A4224 on sand and sage. No legend.
- One callout: a 3px dark olive dot on the key point, an 18px vertical tick above it, and a 13px bold label.

Texture:
- Paper fiber over everything: fractal noise (base frequency 0.85 x 0.55, 2 octaves) mapped to a warm dark tone (RGB about 0.25, 0.22, 0.12) at 16% overall opacity. It should read as fiber, never as grime.

Avoid: saturated or neon colors, hard black outlines, gradients across the sheets, glossy effects, heavy shadows, a legend box, and straight-line polylines for the area edges.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the title fits inside the deckled card, every band label sits fully inside its band, the shadows are visible between each pair of layers, and the headline claim matches the stacked totals.
