Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Panel Grid" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a clean modern comic page. A tidy grid of panels, thick white gutters, heavy black panel borders and flat print primaries, like a well-lettered page from a contemporary graphic novel.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page and panel fill: #FFFFFF.
- Panel borders, bar outlines, baselines and title: #111111.
- Series colors, flat, no gradients: #D7263D (print red), #F4C20D (print yellow), #1B5FAA (print blue), always in that order.
- Narration caption boxes: #FFF4B8 (pale yellow).
- Faint guide lines: #E4E4E4. Secondary text: #555555.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Bowlby One for the title (32px, uppercase, 0.5px letter-spacing, stating the finding), the caption box labels (13px) and the page folio (12px).
- Hanken Grotesk for the subtitle (16px 500 #555555), legend (15px 700), value labels (14px 600, the largest value in each panel 17px 800), panel totals (12px 600) and source (12px). Callouts inside a panel in 11.5px 800 blue caps with 0.8px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- 40px page margins. Title and subtitle at top left, the legend on the subtitle line at the right (16px square swatches with a 2px black outline).
- Split the chart into small multiples: a grid of panels (2 rows x 3 columns at 960 x 600), each about 284 x 206px, separated by 14px white gutters, each with a 3px #111111 border.
- A #FFF4B8 caption box (about 92 x 30px, 2px black border) tucked into each panel's top left corner, naming the panel ("ISSUE #1").
- Source line and a small "PAGE 6" folio at the bottom.

Axes and grid:
- Every panel shares one y scale that starts at zero; say so in the source line. No y labels; label every bar instead.
- Three faint 1px #E4E4E4 guide lines per panel and a 2px black baseline. A small panel total centered under the baseline.

Marks:
- Bar chart: square-cornered bars 58px wide in 82px slots, flat fill in the series color with a 2px #111111 outline (the outline keeps yellow readable on white), values 7px above each bar.
- Line chart: in each panel a 3.5px line per series in the same three colors with 2px black-outlined square markers, over the same faint guides, a direct label at each line end.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, rounded corners, gutters thinner than 10px, and inconsistent scales between panels.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every panel uses the same scale from zero, the caption boxes never touch a bar or label, and the yellow still reads clearly against white.
