Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Pack Weights" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an ultralight hiker's gear spreadsheet turned into a clean dark infographic. Graphite background, earthy outdoor colors, condensed athletic type and a gear-list footnote in mono.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Canvas: #1C1E20 (graphite). Gridlines and rules: #34383C.
- Series in this fixed order: #E8762D (trail orange), #5E6F82 (slate), #7B9057 (moss), #CDB98A (sand). Keep the order identical in the legend and in every bar.
- Labels inside segments: #1C1E20 on orange and sand, #FFFFFF on slate and moss.
- Main text #ECE8E1 (off-white); secondary text #8C9196. The eyebrow and the rule above it use trail orange.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Barlow Condensed: title 700, 38px off-white, stating the finding; eyebrow 600, 13px uppercase, 2.4px letter-spacing; row labels 700, 19px uppercase, 1.2px letter-spacing; legend names 700, 15px uppercase; totals 700, 21px; the "TOTAL" column header 600 12px with 2px letter-spacing.
- Barlow: subtitle 15px #8C9196; segment values 600, 14px ("820 g"); tick labels 12px.
- IBM Plex Mono 400, 11px #8C9196 for the footnote, written like a gear-list note ("* Base weight excludes food, water and fuel. ... Source: ...").

Layout:
- 56px side margins. A 2px trail orange rule across the full width at y 36, the eyebrow at y 62, title at y 104, subtitle at y 132.
- Legend row at y 172: for each series a small line pictogram of the gear (tent, sleeping bag, backpack, pot) stroked 1.8px in the series color, then a 10px square swatch and the name. Pictograms appear only in the legend.
- Rows from y 212, 62px apart, 38px tall bars from x 168 to 800. Names left at x 56, totals right-aligned at x 904.
- A footer rule at y 548 and the mono footnote at y 574.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical 1px #34383C gridlines at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% behind the bars, with percent labels below the last row. No axis lines.

Marks:
- Bar chart: 100% stacked horizontal bars, square corners, a 2px graphite gap between segments, the raw value printed centered in each segment and the row total ("2.65 kg", two decimals) at the right. Sort rows by total, lightest first.
- Line chart: one 3px line per series in the same colors and order, square 7px markers, values in Barlow 600 at the last point, the series name in Barlow Condensed 700 uppercase at each line's end, and the same orange top rule, pictogram legend and mono footnote.

Avoid: rounded corners, gradients, glows, pictograms inside the chart area, and segment labels that do not fit (move them outside with a leader instead).

When you're done, render the chart and check that every segment label fits inside its segment, the totals are the true sums, the title claim holds for every row, and the legend order matches the stack order.
