Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Orchestra Forces" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a printed insert in a concert program. Warm ivory stock, classical serif display type, small-caps family headers and four deep, slightly antique family colors. The numbers are counts of people, so bars are built from one cell per unit.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FAF6EE (program ivory), with a 1px #DDD3C2 border inset 24px from the edges.
- Group colors: #7A2E3A (strings burgundy), #6B7B3A (olive), #B8913A (brass gold), #5C6670 (slate). Text in the brass group uses the darker #8E6D26 so it stays readable on ivory.
- Ink: #2B2622 for the title, total figure, row labels and the rule under the header. Muted text and zero lines: #7A7166. Hairlines: #DDD3C2.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cormorant 600 for the title (40px, sentence case, stating the finding) and Cormorant 300 at 96px for the big total figure, lining numerals.
- Cormorant SC for the eyebrow (600, 17px, 1.6px letter-spacing, burgundy), the group headers (700, 19px, 1.2px letter-spacing, in the group color) and the folio (600, 14px).
- Lato for everything else: subtitle 15.5px #7A7166; row labels 14px 400; value labels 14px 700 in the group color; group totals 12.5px 700 right-aligned; the caption under the total 11px 700 uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing; source 12.5px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 68, title at y 112, subtitle at y 142, a 0.8px ink rule at y 166.
- Top right: the total as a large figure right-aligned to x 904 with its caption ("PLAYERS ON STAGE") beneath it.
- Groups in a 2 x 2 grid of 404px columns (x 56 and x 500): first tier headers at y 196, second tier at y 380. Each header has its total at the right and a 1px rule in the group color 8px below.
- Footer rule at y 530, source on the left, small-caps folio on the right.

Axes and grid:
- No value axis and no gridlines: every bar carries its count. A 1px #7A7166 zero line at the left edge of each group's bars, 118px from the column start.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars 15px tall on a 27px row pitch, built of square-cornered cells, one per unit, 15.6px pitch with 2px ivory gaps, in the group color. The count sits 6px after the last cell. Keep one shared scale across all groups so lengths compare honestly.
- Line chart: one 2px line per group in its color with 5px dots at each point filled with the group color, group names as small-caps direct labels at the right end, the grand total as the big figure; no area fills.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, rounded cells, a legend box (the headers are the legend), bright saturated colors, and different scales per group.

When you're done, render the chart and check that cell counts equal the data exactly, group totals add up to the big figure, the title's share is arithmetically right, and brass text is the darker #8E6D26.
