Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Opera Bill" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a classic opera house season playbill. Pure black, warm white, one dramatic crimson; high-contrast Didone type, hairline double rules and a small ornament, everything centered on a spine.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Ground: #000000.
- Warm white for rules, primary text and the left-side (or primary) bars: #F2EBDD.
- Crimson for the right-side (or secondary) bars, the ornament and the one highlighted value: #C0142F.
- Stone gray for secondary text: #8C857A. Row names that are not highlighted: #CFC7B8. Divider hairline: #4A453F.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Bodoni Moda (opsz 6..96) for the title (600, 38px, sentence case, centered, optical size 96) and all numbers: value labels 400 italic 16px, the share column 17px (700 crimson when highlighted).
- Archivo Narrow for labels: masthead line 600 12px uppercase with 3px letter-spacing; subtitle 400 15px stone gray; column heads 700 12px uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing; row names 600 14px uppercase with 0.8px letter-spacing; footer 400 12px.

Layout:
- 48px side margins. A double rule at the top (1.2px warm white, then 0.5px warm white 4px below), the masthead line centered under it, then the centered title and subtitle.
- Ornament centered below the subtitle: a 14px crimson lozenge between two 68px warm white hairlines (0.6px) ending in 1.6px dots.
- Column heads on one line: the category head at the left margin in gray, the left measure right-aligned to the spine in warm white, the right measure starting at the spine in crimson, and a derived share column right-aligned at the right margin; a 0.8px #4A453F hairline beneath.
- The spine is a 1.5px warm white vertical line at x 640. Rows 27.5px apart. Another double rule closes the chart, then source bottom left and a formula note bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- No axes or gridlines; the spine is the only structure and every bar has its value.

Marks:
- Bar chart: diverging horizontal bars, 15px tall, square corners, sharing one scale on both sides: warm white bars extend left from the spine, crimson bars extend right. Values in Bodoni Moda italic 16px warm white set 8px beyond each tip. Sort rows by the left measure, largest first.
- Line chart: a 2px warm white line with straight segments and small 3px warm white dots, a second series as a 2px crimson line; values at the ends in Bodoni italic. Use the double rules and centered masthead unchanged.

Avoid: gradients, rounded corners, shadows, any color beyond these, gridlines, and sans-serif numerals.

When you're done, render the chart and check that both sides use the same scale, the italic values never touch the row names, only one value is crimson-highlighted, and the title's claim matches the data.
