Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Open to Buy" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a slide from a luxury retailer's merchandise planning deck. Near-black background, ivory and champagne ink, a classical display serif, and a quiet month-end table that makes the chart auditable.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0B0B0C.
- Plan / reference series and main text: #EDE6D6 (ivory).
- Actual / primary series, accents and the gap figures: #D6B77A (champagne). The gap between the two series is filled with #D6B77A at 26% opacity.
- Secondary text: #8C877C. Axis labels: #5E5A53. Gridlines and table rules: #2A2826 (the rule under the month labels is #5E5A53).

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Marcellus 32px #EDE6D6 for the title (sentence case, stating the finding) and a 13px slide number bottom right.
- Albert Sans for everything else: eyebrow 11px 600 uppercase with 3px letter-spacing in champagne (period at the right in #8C877C); subtitle 14.5px #8C877C; legend 12.5px ivory; axis labels 11.5px; month labels 11px 600 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing in ivory; table row labels 10.5px 600 uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing; table figures 13px with tabular numerals (plan ivory 400, actual champagne 400, gap champagne 700); callout 12px 600; source 11px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 96, subtitle at y 124 with the legend right-aligned on the same line.
- Plot from x 128 to 904, y 168 to 388, with columns of equal width per period and points centered in their column.
- Month labels 24px under the plot, then a 1px rule 44px under the plot, then the table: three rows 26px apart (Plan, Actual, Open), each figure centered in its period's column so the table lines up exactly with the points above. A 1px #2A2826 rule separates Actual from Open. The largest gap's cell gets a #D6B77A 14% opacity highlight.
- Source line and slide number at y 572.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #2A2826 gridlines at round values with labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot. No axis lines, no vertical gridlines.

Marks:
- Line chart: the plan line 1.8px ivory dashed (6 on, 4 off); the actual line 2.6px solid champagne with 3.2px hollow markers (background fill, 1.6px champagne ring). Fill the area between them with translucent champagne. Straight segments, round joins.
- Bar chart: plan as a 1.8px dashed ivory outline box per period and actual as a solid champagne bar inside it (same width, square corners, 60% of the column), so the unfilled top of each outline is the open amount; label the gap in 12px 600 champagne above.
- Callout the widest gap with a short 0.8px champagne leader and a two-line 12px champagne label.

Avoid: bright colors, glows, gradients, 3D, rounded corners, a second y axis, and table figures that drift out of alignment with their period.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each table column sits directly under its point, the open figures equal plan minus actual, the title total matches the table, and the dashed plan line stays visible on top of the wash.
