Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "On-Block Times" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a page from an airport airside operations report. Crisp white paper, one institutional blue, monospaced flight-deck labels and plain facts: no decoration that does not carry operational meaning.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF.
- Aviation blue #0B4F9C: the header band, the main data series, the season-average readout.
- Report ink #0F1B2D: title and strong labels. Secondary text #5E6878.
- Gridlines #E3E8EF; the bottom axis line and month ticks #9AA3B0; minor ticks #C3C9D2.
- Disruption shading (weather days, incidents, outages): #ECEEF1, legend swatch outlined in #C9CED6.
- Goal or target line: #C2410C (burnt orange).

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Barlow for the header band text (600, 12.5px, uppercase, 2px letter-spacing, white), the title (700, 30px, ink, stating the finding with a count computed from the data) and the subtitle (400, 15.5px, #5E6878, measure, unit and period).
- B612 Mono for every other label: legend 11px uppercase, axis labels 11px, month labels 11px 700 uppercase, header tags 11px.
- B612 Mono sits periods and colons at the left of a full-width cell, so "82.5%" reads as "82. 5%". Any readout with a decimal point, colon or period (the season average, the low callout, source and folio) is set in proportional B612 from the same family, same size, weight and color. Whole-number labels ("GOAL 80%") stay in B612 Mono.

Layout:
- A 36px full-width header band in #0B4F9C at the very top. Left: "AIRPORT NAME / AIRSIDE OPERATIONS REPORT" in white. Right-aligned at 904px: a row of small code tags (18px tall, 2px radius, 1px white outline at 75% opacity, 8px apart) holding short codes such as the airport code, the piers and the season.
- 56px side margins. Title baseline at 86px, subtitle at 114px, a single-row legend at 146px (left) with the season average in B612 700 blue right-aligned on the same line.
- Plot from x 96 to 904, top about 212, baseline 500. Leave the band between 164 and 204 for event icons.
- A footer with a 1px #E3E8EF rule at 548px, "Source: ..." at left and a folio like "MRT OPS | PUNCTUALITY | P. 04" at right, both B612 10.5px #5E6878.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #E3E8EF gridlines every 10 units; the bottom one (the baseline) in #9AA3B0. Y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot, the top one with its unit ("100%").
- No y-axis line. Month boundaries get an 8px #9AA3B0 tick and a bold uppercase month label starting 4px right of the tick; weeks get 4px #C3C9D2 ticks.

Marks:
- Line chart: one thick 3.2px #0B4F9C line with straight segments, round joins and caps, no dots. Mark the minimum with a white circle (r 4.5, 2px blue stroke) and a thin 0.8px ink leader to a callout like "LOW 56.3% 4 JUL" in 700 11px B612.
- Bar chart: slim square-ended #0B4F9C bars (about 60% of the band), the baseline in #9AA3B0, values in B612 Mono 11px above the notable bars only.
- Disruption periods: full-height #ECEEF1 rectangles behind the data covering the affected days (half a slot either side), extending 8px above the plot. Above each, a thunderstorm icon drawn as an outline: a cloud of three arcs (about 26 x 14 px, white fill, 1.3px #5E6878 stroke) with a zigzag lightning bolt below it in the same stroke. Use a different outline pictogram if the disruption is not weather.
- Goal: a full-width 1.6px #C2410C dashed line (6 on, 4 off), plus a tag at the right end below the line: a white 76 x 17 px box with a 1px #C2410C border, 2px radius, "GOAL 80%" in B612 Mono 700 10.5px orange.

Labels and annotation:
- Legend items in order: a 28px blue line swatch, a 14px shaded square, a dashed orange swatch, each with an uppercase mono label.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, smoothing the daily line, more than one data color, rounded bars, a y-axis line, and decorative icons with no event behind them.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the title count matches the data (days at or above the goal), every shaded band has its storm icon centered above it, the goal tag does not cover the line, and the header tags sit fully inside the band.
