Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Olive Mill" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the end-of-season report of a small olive mill. Calm, earthy and precise: pale limestone paper, deep olive bars with a bright chartreuse core, a classical serif for names and a clean grotesque for numbers, and small stone-colored tags like the labels tied to oil tins.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #EFEBE2 (pale limestone) for the whole canvas.
- Main data color: #5E6B2E (deep olive). Highlight segment: #C5CC4A (chartreuse), always drawn inside an olive bar or line so it never touches the page.
- Ink for title, labels and the average line: #3F4A26 (dark olive). Secondary text: #77785F. Gridlines and footer rule: #DCD6C8. Tag fill: #E4DFD1.
- Value labels sitting on olive fills use the page color #EFEBE2.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cormorant 700, 40px, for the title stating the finding; Cormorant 600, 19px, for category labels; Cormorant italic 500, 16px, for the footer note. Use lining figures (font-variant-numeric: lining-nums).
- Work Sans for everything else: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 3px letter-spacing (mill name in #5E6B2E, then a 28px 1px olive dash, then the report name in #77785F at weight 500); subtitle 14.5px 400 in #77785F naming measure, unit and what the light segment means; legend 13px; value labels 12.5px 600; tag text 10.5px 600; axis labels 12.5px; the average label 12px 600; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 58, title at y 104, subtitle at y 134, a one-line legend at y 171: 14 x 12 px swatches (radius 1.5) for each segment, then a sample tag and "Harvest date".
- Category labels right-aligned ending at x 186; bars start at x 200 and the scale runs to x 790, leaving room for tags. Rows 38px apart starting at y 206.
- Footer rule (#DCD6C8) at y 554; "Source: ..." left and an italic Cormorant note right, both at y 578.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical 1px #DCD6C8 gridlines at round values (0, 5, 10, 15, 20) running the full height of the rows, labels below the last row with the unit on every tick ("15%"). No axis lines, no horizontal grid.
- The reference average is a vertical dotted line: 1.6px #3F4A26, dash 0.1 5 with round caps, drawn BEHIND the bars and tags so it only shows in the gaps between rows, extending 24px above the first row with the label "Mill average 15.8%" 6px to its right.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars 22px tall in #5E6B2E with 2px rounded right ends, square at the baseline, sorted descending. The highlighted share is an inner #C5CC4A bar inset 4px top and bottom (14px tall), starting at the baseline, its length the share of the bar. The value sits inside the bar end, right-aligned 8px from the tip, 12.5px 600 in #EFEBE2. 8px after each bar, a 46 x 16 px tag (radius 3) filled #E4DFD1 with a 1.6px #77785F dot 5px from its left edge and the date centered in #3F4A26.
- Line chart: a 3px #5E6B2E line with straight segments and r 4 dots in #5E6B2E; a highlighted series or period uses a 1.5px #C5CC4A line drawn on top of the olive line (a chartreuse core inside the olive stroke). End each line with the same stone tag carrying its last value, 8px after the final point. The average is the same dotted #3F4A26 line, drawn horizontally.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, outlines on bars, bright colors beyond the single chartreuse, a boxed legend, and anything crossing the value labels or tags.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the headline figure and the average match the data, the chartreuse segment always sits inside its olive bar, the dotted average line is hidden behind bars and tags, and every tag clears the end of its bar by 8px.
