Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Offset Vintage" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a price bulletin printed on recycled paper by a voluntary carbon registry. Earthy, calm and literate: thin colored lines, a book serif title and small round registry seals at the line ends.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F2EEE4 (recycled paper beige).
- Series, in order: #5E7A3A (moss), #2A9BA6 (teal), #4D5B78 (slate), #B2613C (clay). Add more only as muted earth tones.
- Ink #2B2822; secondary text #6F685B; gridlines #DDD6C6; the legacy zone fill #E8E2D4 at 70% opacity; faint legacy label text #9C9483.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Libre Caslon Text 400 for the title, 30px, #2B2822, sentence case, stating the finding.
- Karla for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 700 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in #6F685B; subtitle 14px #6F685B; axis labels 12.5px; zone labels 11px 700 uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing; the italic zone note 11.5px Karla italic; series names 13px 700 in the series color with a 12px regular value line in #6F685B; seal codes 9.5px 800 with 0.6px letter-spacing in page color.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 58, title at y 100, subtitle at y 130.
- Plot from x 96 to x 770 and y 196 to y 500; the right 130px hold the direct labels.
- An axis title under the x labels in the eyebrow style ("CREDIT VINTAGE YEAR").
- Footer rule at y 560 in #DDD6C6, source on the left in 11.5px, the series codes spaced out on the right in the faint legacy color.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 0.8px #DDD6C6, with a 1px ink zero line. Dollar labels right-aligned left of the plot.
- 5px ticks under every category on the x axis; the latest category label in 700 ink, the rest 400 muted.
- A thin 0.9px #6F685B vertical rule separates the older (legacy) categories; shade the legacy side #E8E2D4 at 70% and label it "LEGACY" plus an italic note in #9C9483, and label the right side "CURRENT METHODOLOGY" in #6F685B.

Marks:
- Line chart: 1.8px lines with straight segments and round joins; every point except the last gets a tiny hollow dot (r 2.2, page fill, 1.2px series stroke). The last point is a seal: a solid r 15 circle in the series color with an inner r 12 dotted ring (0.8px page-colored stroke, 1.2 on, 1.4 off) and a three-letter uppercase code centered inside. The series name and value sit 24px to the right of the seal.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered bars (about 45% of the band) in the series colors, grouped by category with 2px gaps, on the same paper page and legacy zone; put the seal (same r 15 circle, dotted inner ring and code) above the tallest bar of each series or at the end of each group, and label values in 12px Karla.

Avoid: thick lines, gradients, drop shadows, bright saturated colors, a boxed legend (use the seals and direct labels), and dual axes.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the seals do not overlap each other (at least 30px apart vertically), the seal codes fit inside their circles, the legacy rule falls between the right categories, and the multiples quoted in the labels match the data.
