Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Obs Chart" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a printed hospital observation chart on pale pink grid paper, filled in by a nurse on the ward. Clinical, orderly and dense, with early-warning scoring zones printed behind the readings. Patient-free: no names or identifiers.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Paper: #FBEEF0 for the whole canvas. Header boxes and the time header get a white #FFFFFF fill at 55% opacity.
- Grid: minor rules #EDC5CE (0.6px horizontal, 0.8px vertical), major rules and block dividers #D58B9D (0.9 to 1px). Block outlines and day dividers 1.2px #4A2A33.
- Ink: #4A2A33 for titles, scale values and labels; #8C5F6B for subtitles, printed field names and notes.
- Series: temperature (or the first series) #1D5FB8 blue; pulse (or the second series) #C62633 red.
- Scoring zones, flat fills behind the grid: #CFE6C4 normal green (score 0), #FBE6B2 pale amber (score 1), #F4C88A amber (score 2), #F2ACA3 red (score 3).

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Roboto Condensed only. Title 700 27px #4A2A33 stating the finding. Subtitle 400 14px #8C5F6B with measures and units.
- Printed field names (CHART, WARD, BED, DATE, TIME, SCORE): 700, 8.5 to 10px, uppercase, 1.2px letter-spacing, #8C5F6B. Field values 500 12px.
- Time labels 10.5px as two-digit 24-hour hours (08, 10, 12 ...). Scale values 10.5px right-aligned. Block names (TEMP, PULSE) 700 12px with 0.8px letter-spacing and the unit underneath at 10.5px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. At the top a row of printed header boxes, 30px tall, 1px #D58B9D borders: CHART, WARD, BED, HOSPITAL NO. (left blank with a dotted write-in line) and SHEET.
- Title about 36px below the boxes, subtitle under it, a legend at the top right.
- A two-row time header across the plot width: DATE row with day spans (DAY 1, DAY 2 ...) and a TIME row with one cell per reading. Day changes get a 1.2px dark rule that continues down through every block.
- Each series gets its own stacked block (small multiples sharing the time columns): a 90px left label column with block name and scale values, the plotting grid, and a 32px NEWS score column on the right that repeats each zone's fill with its score number (700 12px) centered in it.
- Footer: a SCORE key (0 Normal, 1 Monitor, 2 Escalate, 3 Urgent review) with 16 x 11 swatches, "Source: illustrative data" right-aligned 11px, and a one-line charting instruction in 10px #8C5F6B.

Axes and grid:
- One vertical column per reading time, points plotted at column centers. Horizontal rows at the chart's natural recording step (0.5 °C, 10 beats); every other row is a major rule and carries a scale label.
- No separate axis lines: the block outline and grid are the axes.

Marks:
- Line chart: readings plotted like a nurse would: temperature as filled blue dots (r 3.6) joined by a thin 1.2px straight line; pulse as red crosses (two 1.8px strokes, 3.8px arm, round caps) joined by a thin 1.2px straight line. Label the peak value above it (700 11.5px in the series color) and circle a key reading with a 7.5px ring and a short "37.8 at hour 26" style note.
- Bar chart: narrow bars (about 40% of the column) in the series color at 85% opacity, square corners, drawn over the scoring zones, with the value in 700 11px above each bar. Keep the zones, grid, time header and score column exactly as for lines.
- Events such as a medication start: a 1px dashed (3 3) vertical #4A2A33 rule through every block with a white label box (0.8px dark border, 11px 500 text).

Avoid: gradients, shadows, rounded corners, smooth curves, any patient name or real identifier, and zone colors any brighter than listed.

When you're done, render the chart and check that zone boundaries fall exactly on grid rows, every point sits at a column center, day divider rules line up from the time header through each block, and the score column numbers are centered in their zones.
