Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Numeral Poster" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a typographic exhibition poster. Off-white stock, one gigantic pale numeral behind everything, a flat slab of cobalt in front and tight small print held in a strict rule system.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F3F0E8 (off-white poster stock).
- Ink for rules, labels and the first title line: #111111.
- Cobalt for the data fill, the second title line, the latest value and footer column heads: #1F3FBF.
- Deep cobalt for the crisp top edge of the fill: #132A8A.
- Ghost numeral: #CFE2F3 (pale sky), solid, no opacity tricks.
- Secondary text (axis values, footer notes): #6B6B6B.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Anton (400, the only weight) for the ghost numeral, the title and the latest value label, always uppercase.
- Inter 400/500/600/700 for everything else.
- Ghost numeral: the last two digits of the final year (for example "25"), Anton 500px, -8px letter-spacing, right-aligned so it ends near x 944 with its baseline near y 516. It fills the right half of the canvas and sits behind the chart.
- Title: two lines of Anton 68px, 0.5px letter-spacing, stating the finding; line one in ink, line two in cobalt. Baselines at about y 142 and 212.
- Subtitle: Inter 500 15px ink with measure, unit and period, directly under the title.
- Header strip: Inter 700 11px uppercase, 2.2px letter-spacing (organizer on the left, report number on the right).
- Axis labels: Inter 600 11px. Footer: column heads Inter 700 10px uppercase, 1.8px letter-spacing, cobalt; values Inter 600 13px ink; notes Inter 400 11px #6B6B6B.

Layout:
- 48px side margins. A 4px ink bar across the top at y 30, the header strip below it, then a 1px ink rule at y 64.
- Title block top left, the chart across the full width from about y 262 to y 482 (the lower half), overlapping the ghost numeral.
- Footer from y 520: a 2px ink rule, then four equal columns separated by 0.75px ink verticals, each with a head, a value line and a note (dates, venue, the headline comparison, credits with "Source: ..."). A 2px ink rule closes the page 12px above the bottom edge.

Axes and grid:
- Three dotted gridlines (0.6px ink, dash 1 3, 55% opacity) across the full width, with values like "50K" in Inter 600 11px #6B6B6B sitting 5px above each line at the left margin.
- A 1.5px ink baseline. x labels every five years in Inter 600 11px ink, 19px below the baseline, with 5px ink ticks; the first label left-aligned, the last right-aligned.

Marks:
- Line chart: draw it as a flat filled area, solid #1F3FBF down to the baseline with straight segments, no gradient and no transparency, plus a 2.5px #132A8A stroke along the top edge with round joins. Multiple series become stacked flat areas, the lower ones in #132A8A and the ghost color used only for the numeral.
- Bar chart: square-cornered flat cobalt bars, about 70% of the band, sitting on the ink baseline in front of the ghost numeral; the latest bar in #132A8A. Value labels in Anton above the bars, in cobalt.

Labels and annotation:
- The latest value in Anton 30px cobalt, right-aligned just above the last point.
- One event annotation: a 1px ink leader line with two lines of Inter 700 10px uppercase text, 1px letter-spacing, right-aligned to the leader.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, rounded corners, legends inside the plot, more than one accent color, and letting the ghost numeral tint or overlap the title text in a way that hurts reading.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the ghost numeral reads as a background shape rather than data, the cobalt area has a crisp top edge, the footer columns line up on their rules, and the title's claim is arithmetically true.
