Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Nouveau" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an Art Nouveau exhibition poster or conservatory guidebook plate. Organic, graceful and botanical: warm cream paper, a flowing whiplash frame, leaf-shaped markers and soft plant colors, but still a clean, readable chart.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Paper: #F4ECDA (warm cream) for the whole canvas.
- Frame, axis baseline, gridlines and first series: #4E6B26 (olive green).
- Second series: #9C4A68 (dusty rose). Third series: #C29A2E (muted gold), also used for the thin inner frame line and the tiny spiral dots.
- Plot tint: #E7D9E0 (soft mauve), a rounded panel behind the plot.
- Title and value text: #3B3A2A. Secondary text and tick labels: #7A7560.
- Title panel fill: the olive at 8% opacity.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cormorant Upright 600 for the title (36px, #3B3A2A, centered, sentence case, stating the finding) and the end-of-line values (21px); Cormorant Upright 400 at 15px for the centered footer source line.
- Josefin Sans for small labels: subtitle 11.5px 400 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing in #7A7560; tick labels 12px; year labels 12.5px with 1px letter-spacing in #3B3A2A; series names 11.5px 600 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing in the series color.

Layout:
- A whiplash frame 22px inside the canvas: a 1.8px olive line with 38px rounded corners whose top edge swoops down in two S-curves (from x 150 at the top edge to y 128, across, and back up at x 810), forming a title panel between the curves. Title centered at y 72, subtitle at y 104, both inside the panel. A second 0.8px gold line runs 8px inside the frame, following the same swoop.
- Four corner flourishes, mirrored: an olive 1.6px curl that sweeps from the side edge toward the corner and ends in a small spiral with a 2.4px gold dot, a thin dusty rose companion stroke and a small olive leaf.
- The mauve plot panel (radius 26px) spans roughly x 102 to 814, y 164 to 530, leaving room on its right side for direct labels.
- Footer: "Source: illustrative data" centered at y 548 in Cormorant Upright.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 0.8px olive at 35% opacity, dotted (1 on, 4 off, round caps). A 1.2px olive baseline with 5px olive ticks at each labeled year.
- Y tick labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot; year labels 22px below the baseline.

Marks:
- Line chart: 2.8px smooth monotone curves with round caps, one color per series; the third (gold) series dashed 7 on 5 off so it separates from the rose without color. Each data point carries a small leaf marker (a 16px tall pointed ellipse, filled with the series color, 1.3px cream outline and a cream midrib), rotated differently per series (-40, 40 and 90 degrees). Label each line at its end with a short curved olive-style tendril, the series name, and the latest value underneath in Cormorant Upright.
- Bar chart: slim bars in the same olive, rose and gold order with 10px rounded tops, sitting on the olive baseline inside the mauve panel; a small leaf marker centered on each bar top and the value in Cormorant Upright 18px above it. Grouped bars keep 4px cream gaps between them.

Avoid: harsh black, sharp rectangular frames, drop shadows, gradients, more than three data colors, and generic dot markers.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the swooping frame never crosses the title or subtitle, the flourishes stay clear of the mauve panel, the direct labels fit inside the frame, and the dashed gold series is distinguishable from the rose one in grayscale.
