Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Note Issue" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the currency chapter of a central bank's annual report, set on dark charcoal. Each series wears the engraving hue of a banknote denomination, a woven guilloche rule sits under the title and the legend is just the denomination numerals in their colors. Sober, institutional, quietly colorful.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1C1C1F, with a soft radial lift to #26262B from the top-left.
- Series hues, in order: sepia #C9A06A, green #3F8F62, violet #8E7CD0, rose #D9899F, deep blue #3F72C0. Assign them to series in that order (smallest denomination or first category first). With fewer series, keep this order and drop from the end.
- Title and emphasized labels: #ECE6DA. Secondary text: #A3A09A. Gridlines and rule borders: #34343A. Baseline: #6A6862. Ordinary total labels: #CFCAC0.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Libre Baskerville 700 for the title (25px, #ECE6DA, sentence case, stating the finding with the computed change), the legend numerals (20px, each in its series hue) and the direct end labels (13px, in hue).
- Barlow for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 600 uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing in #A3A09A; subtitle 16px 400 in #A3A09A with measure and unit; axis labels 13px; year labels 14px (the latest 600 in #ECE6DA); totals 13.5px 600 (the latest 16px in #ECE6DA); source and footnote 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 88, subtitle at y 115.
- Guilloche rule at y 136 spanning the full content width: one 0.8px sine line per series in its hue at 85% opacity (amplitude 5px, wavelength about 44px, phases evenly spaced so they weave), tapering to nothing over the first and last 40px, between two 0.8px #34343A hairlines 8px above and below.
- Legend row at y 180: a small "CROWNS" caption (Barlow 11px 600, 2px letter-spacing) followed by the numerals 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 in their hues, about 22px apart.
- Plot from x 96 to 852, y 214 to 510, leaving room at the right for the direct labels. Source at the bottom left, an explanatory footnote bottom right, both at y 572.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines at round values, 0.8px #34343A; y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot; no y-axis line. A 1px #6A6862 baseline, year labels 24px below it.

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked vertical bars, square corners, 46px wide on a 76px slot, the largest series at the bottom. Segments are separated by 1.5px hairline gaps (the background showing through), never outlines. Each segment carries a subtle horizontal sheen: white at 10% on its left edge fading to black at 12% on its right. The total sits 9px above each stack in Barlow 600. Beside the latest stack, direct labels name each segment in its hue, nudged apart to at least 16px spacing with a 0.8px angled leader when moved.
- Line chart: one 2.5px line per series in its hue with straight segments, round joins, 4px dots at each point in the same hue with a 1.5px charcoal ring, and the denomination numeral as a direct label at the right end (same nudging rule). Keep the guilloche rule and numeral legend.

Avoid: saturated or neon versions of the hues, outlines on segments, rounded corners, 3D, a boxed legend, and more than five series colors.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the hairline gaps are visible between every segment, the tiny top segments still read, direct labels do not collide, and the totals and the title's percentage are arithmetically right.
