Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Nixie Tubes" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a lab instrument behind smoked glass. A row of cold-cathode nixie tubes glows warm orange at the top, and the data runs below as a single neon line with a soft bloom over a faint copper grid. Warm, dim and precise.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #120D0A, with a warm radial glow behind the tubes (#3A1C0A at 90% fading to transparent, centered near the top right, radius 55%).
- Neon: #FF8A2A for the data line, lit-numeral halos, dot rings and the eyebrow.
- Cathode core: #FFD7AE for the fill of lit numerals, peak dots and peak labels.
- Copper: #6E4A32 for gridlines, label capsules and tube socket pins.
- Pale orange: #F2B98A for axis labels, subtitle and captions (75 to 80% opacity; 60% for the source). Title #FFE3C8.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Oxanium: title 600 at 30px (two lines, stating the finding); y-axis labels 12px; tube numerals 300 at 58px.
- Share Tech Mono: eyebrow 13px uppercase with 3px letter-spacing in neon; subtitle 13px; tube caption and date labels 12px uppercase with 1 to 1.5px letter-spacing; peak labels 14px; source 11px.

Layout:
- Eyebrow at x 48, y 62; title lines at y 100 and 136; subtitle at y 170.
- Six tubes top right, ending at x 912: each 46 x 100px with a semicircular top, 9px apart, starting at y 30, on 12px sockets with five small copper pins; a caption centered 38px below the tubes.
- Plot area about x 80 to 904, y 236 to 500.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal copper gridlines 0.7px at 55% opacity; the zero line 1.2px at full opacity. Labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot ("2k").
- Dashed vertical copper lines (0.7px, dash 2 on 4 off, 40% opacity) at each week or period start, with date labels 24px below the baseline.

Effects:
- Tube: glass envelope with a horizontal gradient #2E1D12 (edges, 95%) to #1A110B (center, 90%) and a 1px #5A3D2A outline; all ten numerals stacked unlit behind the lit one (no fill, 0.9px #5E3E28 stroke, group at 75% opacity); the lit numeral filled #FFD7AE with a 1.2px #FF8A2A stroke; a hexagonal anode mesh over the front (6 x 10.4px hex pattern, 0.45px #8A6448 at 55%); a 2px white arc highlight at 14% on the left shoulder.
- Nixie glow (lit numerals, peak dots, peak label text): merge two copies of a 7px blur, one 2px blur and the source. Line bloom: a 5px blur merged under the source. Use user-space filter regions covering the whole chart so glows never clip.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 2.2px #FF8A2A line with straight segments, round joins, bloom, over a 6% neon area fill. Each periodic peak (for example the weekly high) gets a 4px-radius dot (core fill, 1.5px neon ring, glow) and a 50 x 22 capsule label 36px above it: fill #1E140D, 1px copper outline, 11px radius, glowing numerals.
- Bar chart: bars as narrow glass tubes, 60% of the band wide, #FF8A2A at 18% fill with a 1.5px neon outline and bloom, rounded top only (radius = half the width); the value in a glowing capsule label above each bar; the latest bar filled at 45%.
- Tubes: show the headline figure (a total or the latest value), one digit per tube, padded with leading zeros to six digits.

Avoid: cool colors, white text, hard drop shadows, thick lines, more than one hue family, and clipped glows.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the tube digits spell the stated figure, unlit numerals are faintly visible behind each lit one, glows are not clipped at the canvas or filter edges, and peak labels do not overlap each other or the line.
