Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Night Vision" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an observatory control panel in red mode, built so an observer can glance at it without losing dark adaptation. Pure black, nothing but reds, technical squared type and one outlined status block.

Colors (use these exact values, and nothing outside the red family):
- Background: #000000.
- Gridlines, frames and the area fill: #7A1010 (dim red).
- The data line, the threshold, the title and emphasized values: #E03030 (signal red).
- Labels, ticks and secondary text: #A82020.
- The caution band just below the threshold: #2A0606.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Aldrich for every piece of text (it has one weight, 400).
- Eyebrow 12px uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing in #A82020; title 26px #E03030 stating the finding; subtitle 14.5px #A82020.
- Tick labels 13px #A82020; uppercase annotations 11 to 12.5px with 1.2 to 1.8px letter-spacing.
- Status text 23px with no fill and a 1.1px #E03030 stroke (outlined letters), 1.5px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 48, title at y 90, subtitle at y 118.
- A status block in the top-right corner (x 690 to 904, y 34 to 122): an outer 1.5px #E03030 frame and an inner 1px #7A1010 frame 6px inside, an indicator (5px ring with a 2px dot) and the outlined status word, with a small caps line underneath.
- Plot area x 84 to 900, y 186 to 492. A footer rule (0.8px #7A1010) at y 548 with caps labels on both ends in 11px.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines every 10 units, 1px #7A1010 dashed 2 on 4; the baseline solid 1.4px #7A1010. Tick marks on the time axis 6px long, 1.2px.
- A short caps unit label ("RH %") above the y tick column.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 2.4px #E03030 monotone-smoothed line with a soft glow (Gaussian blur 4 merged under the stroke), over an area fill of #7A1010 at 22% opacity. The threshold is a 1.5px #E03030 line dashed 9 on 6 with its caps label just above the left end. Fill the caution band between the warning level and the threshold with #2A0606. Mark the peak with an r 5 black circle with a 2px red ring and a dotted 2-3 drop line to a caps label; label the first and last values.
- Bar chart: square-cornered bars in #7A1010 with a 1.5px #E03030 top cap, the bar that comes closest to the threshold solid #E03030, values above in 13px #A82020, and the same dashed threshold and caution band.

Avoid: any white, blue, green or amber, any light background, gradients other than the line glow, rounded shapes beyond the indicator, and thin light-weight type that disappears on black.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every element is red on black, the outlined status word is legible at thumbnail size, the status block does not crowd the title, and the peak label and margin are computed from the data.
