Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Night Reader" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an e-reader in night mode at bedtime. Warm charcoal, soft sepia type and one muted amber accent, all at gentle contrast so nothing glares in a dark room. Calm, bookish, device-like.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1F1C19 (warm charcoal).
- Primary text: #D9C7A6 (soft sepia). Secondary text: #8E806B.
- Accent: #D39A4A (muted amber), only for the highlighted series, its title, its stat and the final progress dot.
- Other series lines: #A8977B. Rules, track fills and empty dots: #3A342D.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Literata for the title (500, 27px, stating the finding), subtitle (italic 16px, secondary), row titles (500 18px; 600 amber for the highlight), author lines (italic 14px) and big stat numerals (500 28px, tabular).
- Inter at tiny sizes for device furniture: status bar 500 12px, counters and captions 10.5px with tabular figures, axis hints 10px.

Layout:
- A device status bar at the top (time left, a centered "Reading log" caption, battery percent and a small outlined battery icon right) above a 1px #3A342D rule at y 50, with 48px side margins.
- Title at y 94 and subtitle at y 122.
- Four stacked rows, 94px tall, separated by 1px dotted rules (1 on, 4 off): title and author at the left, a sparkline from x 300 to 760, and the stat right-aligned at x 912 with a caption such as "avg. per reading night".
- A dot trail of 30 small dots (2.2px radius) along the bottom at y 552, one per period, filled #A8977B where there was activity, #3A342D where not, and the latest dot larger (3.4px) in amber.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines. Only a 1px #3A342D baseline under each sparkline and tiny "60" and "0" hints on the first row.

Marks:
- Line chart: small multiples of sparklines, one per series, drawn as smooth monotone curves: 2px amber for the highlight, 1.4px #A8977B for the rest, with a faint area fill of the same color (16% opacity for the highlight, 9% for the others) and a 3px dot at the final point. Beneath each sparkline, a 3px rounded progress bar on a #3A342D track with "loc 1,402 of 3,310" style counters at the left and "42% read" at the right.
- Bar chart: rows of thin 3px-rounded horizontal bars on #3A342D tracks, like reading-progress bars, one per category, with the value in Literata at the right and the highlighted bar in amber.

Avoid: pure white or pure black, saturated colors, bright glows, heavy gridlines, bold sans headlines, and more than one amber element group.

When you're done, render the chart and check that contrast stays gentle, the stat numbers and title agree with the data, the counters are consistent with the progress bars, and the rows are evenly spaced.
