Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Night Bridge" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a ship's bridge display in night mode. Everything is red on pure black so the watch keeps its night vision: faint red grid, dim red labels, one bright red data line. Quiet, disciplined, instrument-like.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #000000.
- Data and title: #FF3B30 (data red).
- Labels, axis figures, tick marks: #B3261E (label red).
- Borders, rose ring and least important text: #7A1C16.
- Gridlines: #3A0A0A (grid red).
- Alternating period bands: #1C0505 (watch band) on every other period, black on the rest.
- No other hues at all: no white, no gray, no green.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Barlow Condensed 600 for the title (36px, data red, stating the finding), the big readout (50px) and period names (17px, 2.4px letter-spacing).
- IBM Plex Mono for everything else: subtitle 13px uppercase with 0.4px letter-spacing in label red, axis figures 12px, callouts 600 12px, notes 11px.

Layout:
- Title at y 68, subtitle at y 98, both from x 48.
- Top right: a small true wind rose (r 34, 1.2px #7A1C16 ring, 12 tick marks, longer at the cardinals, "N" above) with a 2.4px red arrow flying from the rim toward the center to show the direction the wind comes from, captioned "TWD 312°"; next to it a heading readout box (126 x 84px, 1.2px #7A1C16 border) with "HDG" and "TRUE" captions and the value in 50px Barlow Condensed data red.
- Plot from x 84 to 900, y 164 to 474. Period names centered under each band at y 548. Source bottom left and a "NIGHT MODE" tag bottom right, 11px #7A1C16.

Axes and grid:
- Gridlines 1px #3A0A0A; baseline 1px label red; figures right-aligned 12px left of the plot; 6px ticks and time labels below.
- Period bands fill the plot height, separated by 1px #7A1C16 dotted (2 on 3) lines; the highlighted period's name in data red, the others in label red.
- A dotted mean line: 1.6px label red, dash 1 on 5 with round caps, labeled "MEAN" and its value in the right margin.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 2.4px data red line, straight segments with round joins and a soft glow (Gaussian blur 3 merged under the stroke). Secondary extremes (gusts, highs) as short vertical ticks rising from the line to their value, 1.6px data red at 70% opacity with a 6px cap. Peak marked with an r 5 black circle ringed 2px in data red and a leader line to a callout box (black fill, 1px #7A1C16 border) holding two lines of mono text.
- Bar chart: vertical bars in #B3261E with square corners at 60% of the band, the highlighted bar in #FF3B30 with a glow; value labels 12px mono above; period bands still behind the bars.
- Legend (when needed): tiny samples of the line and tick with 11px mono labels, top left inside the plot.

Avoid: any non-red hue, white text, gradients, bright fills, heavy frames, and more than one bright element per group.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the image works as red-on-black only, the grid stays barely visible, the callout box hides the ticks behind it, and the title's number matches the data.
