Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Net Zero Bars" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a clean climate transition plan from a forestry company. Crisp white page, a tonal family of greens, reported years solid and future targets fading into dashed outlines.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF.
- Series, darkest at the bottom: #1F4D3A (forest), #6E9A4B (moss), #C9D8B6 (pale lichen). Lichen gets a 1px #A9BC93 edge on its legend swatch and a #8FA873 dashed outline in target bars.
- Ink (title, totals, baseline, net marker): #16211B. Secondary text: #5F6B63. Gridlines: #E6EAE4.
- Target zone: a #F5F8F2 panel behind future years, with a 1px #AAB5AC dashed divider (3 on, 3 off). Target labels and target year labels in moss.

Typography (Google Fonts): Manrope only.
- Eyebrow 11.5px 700 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing in forest, preceded by a 10px forest square with 3px radius.
- Title 31px 800 with -0.6px letter-spacing, stating the finding. Subtitle 15.5px 500 in #5F6B63 with measure, unit and which years are reported vs. targets.
- Legend names 13px 700, their descriptions 13px 400 in #5F6B63. Totals above bars 13px 700 (600 in moss for targets). Axis labels 12.5px. Zone labels "REPORTED" and "TARGETS" 11px 700 with 1.8px letter-spacing. Source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at 94, subtitle at 122, legend row at 150 to 164.
- Plot from x 96 to 904, y 196 to 510. Footer at y 572: source left, a one-line net summary right in 12px 600 ink.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #E6EAE4 horizontal gridlines at round values, labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot. No y-axis line. A 1.2px ink baseline with year labels 24px below; the latest reported year and the final target year in 800.

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked bars 40px wide (about half the band). Only the top segment has 5px rounded top corners; segments are separated by 1.2px white lines. A total label sits 9px above each stack.
- Net marker: for each year with offsets, a 2px ink horizontal line at the net value, overhanging the bar by 6px each side. Legend entry: a 22px ink line labeled "Net after offsets".
- Target years: each segment drawn as a dashed outline (1.5px, 4 on, 3 off, in the segment color) with the segment color at 22% fill opacity, and both fill and stroke fading by 13% per year further out.
- Line chart: one 2.5px line per series in the same three greens (lichen drawn 3px so it holds up on white) with 4px dots, the future portion drawn dashed (5 on, 4 off) over the #F5F8F2 target panel; a thin ink net line if offsets apply.
- Legend: rounded 14px swatches (4px radius) in one row, series name then a short description.

Avoid: saturated or neon greens, gradients, drop shadows, 3D, a separate colored target palette, and more than three stacked series.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the totals add up, the net markers sit at total minus offsets, target years clearly read as plans rather than results, and the lichen segment is visible against white.
