Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Net Pay" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a petrophysics summary table that became a chart. Condensed type, ruled rows, a quiet gray total bar with a textured sand-colored part bar in front, and a bold ratio column you can read down.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF. Ink: #1E1B16. Secondary text: #6F6A60. Row rules and grid: #C9C5BC.
- Whole / total bars: #DEDCD6 (gross gray).
- Part / highlight bars: #E6C975 (sand yellow) filled with a stipple pattern: a 7 x 7 tile with two dots of #8A6A1F (stipple brown), r 0.9 at 45% opacity and r 0.7 at 35% opacity, offset diagonally. The part bar ends with a 1.2px #8A6A1F cap line.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Encode Sans Condensed. Title 700 27px stating the finding with numbers. Subtitle 400 15px #6F6A60 with measure, unit and scope. Row labels 500 16px (the highlighted row 700). Secondary column 400 14px #6F6A60 right-aligned. Column headers 600 11px uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing #6F6A60. Bar-end labels: part value 600 13px ink over whole value 400 12px muted. Ratio column 800 20px, right-aligned, ink when at or above a threshold and #6F6A60 below. Footnote labels 12px muted with values 700 13px ink.

Layout:
- 40px margins. Title at y 50, subtitle at y 78, a one-line legend at y 110 (gray swatch, stippled swatch, then the bold ratio abbreviation and its meaning).
- A table grid: label column at x 40, a right-aligned secondary column ending at x 206, bars from x 250 to 820, the ratio column right-aligned at x 920. A 1px ink rule under the column headers and at the bottom of the rows, 0.6px #C9C5BC rules between rows, rows about 48px tall.
- A totals row under the axis: bold label, a sentence value and the overall ratio in the ratio column.
- Footnote strip at the bottom above a 0.8px rule: an uppercase "PAY CUTOFFS" (or equivalent criteria) label then three small key/value pairs, with the source note right-aligned.

Axes and grid:
- 1.2px ink baseline at the bar origin. Dotted (2 3) 0.6px #C9C5BC verticals every 10 units, labels 12px muted under the last rule, unit after the last label. No y axis beyond the row labels.

Marks:
- Bar chart: whole bars 30px tall, square corners, #DEDCD6. Part bars 18px tall, centered inside, stippled sand yellow with the brown end cap. Two-line value label 8px past the end of the whole bar. Bars start at zero.
- Line chart: each series as a 2px #8A6A1F line with square 7px sand-yellow (#E6C975) markers outlined in #8A6A1F; a comparison or total series as a 6px wide #DEDCD6 band line behind it. Keep the table frame: row-style rules become horizontal grid, the ratio column becomes end-of-line value labels in 800 weight.

Avoid: rounded corners, gradients, shadows, saturated colors, a boxed legend, vertical axis lines other than the baseline.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the stipple is visible but subtle at full size, part bars never exceed their whole bars, the ratio column is arithmetically right and the footnote strip has clear space above it.
