Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Mooring Currents" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a physical oceanographer's instrument log on a dark workstation screen. Deep water blue, monospaced type, thin luminous traces stacked like a seismograph, and one warm band marking the event that matters.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #07121F (deep ocean blue).
- Series, top to bottom (shallow to deep, or first to last): #6FE6EA (cyan), #4A9CF0 (blue), #7658E0 (violet), #C77DE8 (orchid violet).
- Event band: #FFB36B at 9% fill opacity with 1px edges at 35% opacity and an uppercase label in solid #FFB36B.
- Primary text: #DCE7F2. Secondary text: #7D8FA3. Trace baselines: #1B2B3F.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Fragment Mono 400 for everything. Title 18px #DCE7F2 stating the finding with a number; subtitle 12px #7D8FA3 with measure, unit, cadence, instrument, place and period, and the words "one shared scale".
- Series labels 17px in the series color; their captions 11px #7D8FA3; column headers 11px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing; date labels 11px; reference labels 10px.

Layout:
- 56px left margin. Title at y 56, subtitle at y 82.
- Plot from x 170 to 820. A left column (right-aligned at x 152) holds each series' name and mean; a right column (from x 840) holds each series' event peak in its color and the calm-period peak underneath, under a "PEAK / in storm" header.
- Date ticks (5px) under the last trace, labels every second day. Source line bottom right at y 590, 11px.

Axes and grid:
- Line chart: offset traces 96px apart, all on one shared scale (1.3px per unit). Each trace has a 1px #1B2B3F zero baseline and a dotted reference line at a round value (0.8px #7D8FA3 at 45% opacity, 1 on 3 off), labeled at the right ("50 cm/s" on the first, "50" on the rest). No y-axis.
- Bar chart: the same offset rows as small multiples of thin vertical bars (1 to 2px wide, 1px gap) rising from each row's baseline in the row color, with the same dotted reference line and the same left and right label columns.

Marks:
- Line chart: 1.3px traces with round joins, drawn at full resolution so periodic wiggles stay visible, each with a same-color fill down to its baseline at 10% opacity. No markers.
- Event band: a full-height translucent vertical band across every row with a small spaced uppercase label at its top.

Avoid: separate y-axes per row, smoothing the signal, glow effects, gradients, legends (label rows directly), and more than one warm color.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every row uses the same scale, the tallest trace does not collide with the row above's labels, the event band spans all rows, and the peak numbers match the data.
