Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Month-End Close" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the controller's board in a wood-panelled finance office. Dark bottle green, a thin brass frame, brass data and cream notes. Quietly proud of a close that landed early.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0E1F18 (bottle green) with a soft radial vignette (transparent from 60% to 28% black at the edges).
- Brass: #B08D57 for the main series, its area fill, value labels, eyebrow, frame and the closed seal.
- Cream: #E7E0CC for the title, the reference or plan series and notes.
- Gridlines: #1E3A2D; baseline and ticks #3A5A48. Secondary text: #8FA597.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Playfair Display with lining figures (font-variant-numeric: lining-nums) for the title (600, 30px, cream, stating the finding) and the subtitle (italic 400, 16px, #8FA597).
- PT Mono for everything else: eyebrow 12px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing in brass; axis labels 13px; value labels 700 14px brass; notes 12.5px (first line cream, second line #8FA597); legend 13px cream; source 12px.

Layout:
- Frame: a 1.2px brass rectangle inset 18px from every edge and a 0.5px brass line at 60% opacity inset 23px.
- Eyebrow at y 70 and title at y 110 from x 60, subtitle at y 138, a legend row at y 172 (a 28px brass 3px line swatch, a 28px cream dashed swatch).
- Plot from x 110 to 860, y 190 to 470. Source bottom left at y 552, a one-line definition note bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- Four horizontal gridlines at round values, 1px #1E3A2D; the zero line 1px #3A5A48. Y labels in PT Mono right-aligned 14px left of the plot.
- X categories (Start, BD1 ... BD8) centered under 6px tick marks; the milestone category bold 700 in brass.

Marks:
- Line chart: the main series is a 3px brass line with straight segments and round joins over an area fill fading from 26% brass to transparent. Points are r 4.5 circles filled with the background and a 2px brass ring, each with its value in PT Mono 700 14px brass, above the point when above the plan and below when under it. The plan or reference line is 1.2px cream dashed (5 on, 4 off) at 85% opacity. Mark the milestone (the day the value reaches zero) with a 13px-radius solid brass seal holding a bottle-green check (2.6px stroke, round caps), a 1px brass leader up to an uppercase "BOOKS CLOSED" label with a small date line.
- Bar chart: square-cornered brass bars about 45% of the band with their values in PT Mono 700 above, the plan as a cream dashed target tick across each bar, and the milestone bar carrying the brass check seal on top.

Avoid: bright greens, white, more than one accent color, heavy gridlines, rounded bar corners, and oldstyle figures in the title.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the frame is unbroken, no label crosses the plan line or another label, the milestone seal sits exactly on the zero line, and the title's claim matches the data.
