Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Moisture Content" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a kiln operator's drying log printed on pale maple stock. Warm, practical and precise, with the feel of a pin-type moisture meter: small diamond readings, a green target band and a little LCD readout.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #F5EBDA (pale maple), with seven very faint horizontal grain curves in #EADCC3 at 1.2px running across the page.
- Primary series: #5C3A21 (walnut brown) for the line, markers and its labels.
- Target and "good" state: #4E7A3B (green), used for the target band, its label and the first in-target marker.
- Title and strong ink: #3A2A1C. Secondary text: #7C6750. Gridlines: #E3D4BB.
- Readout: body #3A2A1C, screen #D9E1BF, screen text #27301A, screen caption #56633A, status dot #8BB06B.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Zilla Slab 700 for the title (34px, #3A2A1C, sentence case, stating the finding) and 17px for the key callout value.
- Work Sans for everything else: eyebrow 11px 600 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing in #7C6750 (separate fields with a spaced vertical bar), a 28 x 3 px walnut rule under it; subtitle 15px #7C6750 naming the measure and unit; tick labels 12.5px; small event labels 10px 600 uppercase with 1.2px letter-spacing plus a 10px regular note under them; series labels 13px 600; source 12px.

Layout:
- Eyebrow at y 34, title baseline about y 88, subtitle about y 116, all left-aligned at x 56.
- A dark meter readout in the top right (152 x 94, radius 10): a 132 x 54 LCD screen (radius 4) showing the latest period in 10px caps and the latest value in Work Sans 600 30px right-aligned, and beneath the screen a green status dot with "IN TARGET" in 10px caps and two tiny pale pin contacts.
- Plot area roughly x 88 to 900, y 176 to 496; x-axis title centred below the tick labels; source line at the bottom left.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines at every y tick, 1px #E3D4BB; the zero line 1.2px #7C6750. No vertical gridlines and no y-axis line.
- Y tick labels with a % unit, right-aligned 12px left of the plot. X ticks are 5px #7C6750 marks below the baseline.
- Target band: fill #4E7A3B at 13% opacity between the target limits, both limits drawn as 1.4px dashed lines (7 on, 5 off) in the same green, with the label "TARGET 8–12%" in 11px 600 caps just above the lower limit on the left.

Marks:
- Line chart: a straight-segment 2.6px walnut line with round joins. Every reading gets a small diamond (4.6px half-diagonal) filled walnut with a 1.6px #F5EBDA ring. The first and last readings get 6.5px diamonds; the first reading inside the target gets a 7px green diamond, a thin 1px green leader rising to a two-line callout (value in Zilla Slab 17px green, explanation in 12px #7C6750).
- Events (such as door openings): thin 0.8px vertical rules in #3A2A1C at 55% opacity running the full plot height, labelled at the top with a 10px caps label and a 10px note.
- Bar chart: slim walnut bars (about 45% of the band, square corners) with a small walnut diamond cap centred on each bar top, value labels in Work Sans 600 13px above; bars inside the target range turn green; the target band sits behind the bars.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, heavy frames, bright saturated colors, rounded plot backgrounds, and more than one accent besides green.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the diamonds keep their pale ring where they sit on gridlines, the target labels do not collide with the line, the event labels clear the title block, and the readout shows the true latest value.
