Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Modern Quilt" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a modern quilt top laid flat: bold solid fabrics pieced into clean blocks, white sashing between them, straight-line quilting across the whole field and a charcoal binding. Graphic, warm and uncluttered.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FAF8F4 (soft white cotton). Quilt field and sashing: #FFFFFF.
- Fabrics, in series order: #1E8C8A (teal), #EF6F5C (coral), #E3AE3A (mustard), #3C3C3C (charcoal). Add further series only as other solid, fully saturated quilting fabrics.
- Binding and primary text: #3C3C3C. Secondary text: #6F6A63. Label edge: #D6D1C8.
- Text inside blocks: white on teal and charcoal, #3C3C3C on coral and mustard.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- DM Serif Display for the title (36px, #3C3C3C, sentence case, stating the finding) and the maker's label name (14px).
- Work Sans for everything else: subtitle 16px 400 secondary; percentages in blocks 600 14px; category labels 500 13px; series labels 500 13px; year labels 600 12px with 1.5px letter-spacing; maker's label line 600 8.5px uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing; source 12px.

Layout:
- 48px margins. Title and subtitle at the top left, the quilt below them (about x 72 to 808, y 150 to 498), direct series labels to the right of the quilt, category labels and year bands below it, a maker's label in the bottom right corner and the source at the bottom left.
- Binding: a 7px charcoal frame (3px corner radius) around the quilt field, with a faint white running stitch (0.8px, 45% opacity, 4 on 3 off) along its middle.
- Year bands: a 1px secondary line under each group of periods with the year centered 18px below it.
- Maker's label: a 112 x 50 px white tag with a 0.8px #D6D1C8 edge and a coral dashed inner stitch (0.9px, 3 on 2.5 off) 4px in, holding the maker's name and a small "MADE 2024–25" line.

Texture:
- Straight-line quilting over the whole field: parallel lines every 16px at -45 degrees, 1px white at 42% opacity, dashed 5 on 3 off, clipped to the quilt field.
- A faint weave: a 3px checker of black at 3.5% over the field.

Axes and grid:
- No axes and no gridlines: the blocks are the scale. Category labels centered under each column, 22px below the binding.

Marks:
- Bar chart (100% stacked): every column is the full height of the field, 8px white sashing between columns and around the field edge, 6px white sashing between the segments. Segments are flat solid fabric (no radius, no stroke). Percentages centered in any block at least 30px tall.
- Line chart: draw the plot area as the quilt field with the binding, then each series as a wide 10px ribbon of solid fabric with square caps and 4px white sashing along both edges (a white 18px line under a 10px colored line), points as 14px solid fabric squares with a 3px white border.
- Direct labels: a 12px fabric swatch and the series name beside the middle of the last column's segment (or the last point), 14px right of the binding.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, prints or patterned fabrics, more than one charcoal element per role, thin hairline strokes on the marks, and a legend box.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the sashing widths are uniform, every column sums to 100%, the quilting lines stay faint, labels inside blocks have enough contrast, and the maker's label text fits inside its stitching.
