Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Mod Pyramid" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a 1970s new-town planning report. Dark olive ground, mustard and tangerine, soft rounded type in lowercase, pill shapes everywhere. Warm, civic and modern.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #2F3A1E (dark olive).
- Left series: #E0B12E (mustard). Right series: #F08A4B (soft tangerine).
- Spine: #F2E8CF (cream), which also colors the title.
- Comparison outline (the earlier period): #141A0B, 2px.
- Muted text: #B3B592. Gridlines: #3E4A2A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Title: Rammetto One 27px #F2E8CF, stating the finding.
- Varela Round for everything else, in lowercase where it is words: subtitle 15px #B3B592 (measure, place, year, total); category (age band) labels 12px #2F3A1E on the cream spine ("under 5", "5–9", "75 and up"); side labels "men" and "women" 20px in their series colors; end values 13px in series colors; axis labels 12px #B3B592; legend chip text 13px.

Layout:
- Title at the top left (baseline y 76), then the signature double stripe under it: two 8px round-capped lines, mustard at y 98 and tangerine at y 112, from x 60 to 520. Subtitle at y 148.
- Pill legend chips right aligned to x 904 on the title row: 26px tall, fully rounded (radius 13), filled with the series colors with olive text; the comparison chip is an outlined cream pill (2px stroke).
- Pyramid centered at x 480 with a 92px central gutter. Rows 21.5px apart, bars 16px tall, youngest band at the bottom. Scale about 0.22px per person.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical 1.5px #3E4A2A gridlines at round values on both sides, labelled below the pyramid on both sides (mirrored).
- Signature spine: a cream #F2E8CF fully rounded vertical pill filling the gutter (inset 6px from the bars) carrying the age band labels, centered.

Marks:
- Bar chart (pyramid): horizontal bars growing out from the spine, square at the spine and fully rounded (radius 8) at the outer end. Over each side a stepped 2px #141A0B outline traces the earlier period's profile (a vertical segment spanning each row at that row's earlier value, joined row to row). Label the largest band's values at the outer bar ends and put the big "men" and "women" labels in the empty space beside the upper bands.
- Line chart: two 4px round-capped lines in mustard and tangerine over the same gridlines, a 2px #141A0B stepped or dashed line for the comparison period, end values in rounded pills in the series colors, and the category labels on a cream rounded band along the x axis.

Avoid: square outer bar ends, uppercase labels, cool colors, gradients, a boxed legend, and colors that differ between the legend chips and the bars.

When you're done, render the chart and check that both sides use the same scale, the stepped outline sits exactly on each row, age labels fit inside the spine, and the legend chips do not collide with the title.
