Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Mission Control" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a flight dynamics console in a 1960s mission control room. A beveled gray-green steel panel with screw heads, recessed dark telemetry screens with a fine phosphor grid, engraved label plates, a mission elapsed time clock and event flags. Monospaced, calm, operational. No glow and no sci-fi neon.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Room behind the panel: #151B18. Console panel: #232C27, a rectangle inset 16px from the edges. Label plate panels: #1C241F. Engraved plates: #0E1310.
- Screens (plot backgrounds and readout windows): #101612. Screen grid: #1E2A23.
- Bevels: light edge #3B4A42 (top and left of raised parts, bottom and right of recessed parts), dark edge #0B0F0D (the opposite sides).
- Series: #F2F1EA (warm white), #9FE0B0 (pale phosphor green), #F2A33A (amber). The MET clock digits are pale green. Dim labels and tick text: #7F9187.

Typography (Google Fonts): IBM Plex Mono throughout.
- Title: 23px 600 warm white, stating the finding. Subtitle: 13.5px 400 #7F9187 naming the measures, units and time basis.
- Engraved plate labels: 10px 600 uppercase, 2px letter-spacing, warm white, centered on an 18px tall #0E1310 plate with a 0.6px #3B4A42 outline.
- MET clock: a 9.5px 600 uppercase caption with 1.8px letter-spacing in #7F9187 and the time as HH:MM:SS in 30px 500 with 2px letter-spacing in #9FE0B0, inside a 222 x 68 px recessed screen box.
- Series names 11px 600 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; units 10px; readout values 19px 500 in the series color; tick labels 9.5 to 11.5px; event flags 10px 600 uppercase.

Layout:
- Panel bevel: a 2px #3B4A42 stroke along the top and left panel edges and a 2px #0B0F0D stroke along the bottom and right, with a 3.2px screw head (dark fill, light ring, one diagonal slot) 14px in from each corner.
- Header: plate label at top left (y 40), title baseline y 92, subtitle y 118, MET clock box at the top right (x 690 to 912, y 40 to 108).
- Plots as stacked strips (one per series) from x 180 to 904 starting at y 170, each 106px tall with 14px gaps, sharing one time axis at the bottom. To the left of each strip a 116px wide raised label panel holding a 10 x 3 px color swatch, the series name, its unit and a recessed readout window with the latest value right-aligned.
- Source line bottom left (10.5px dim), a console code bottom right ("CONSOLE 4 / TRAJECTORY", 10px 600 caps).

Axes and grid:
- Each strip is a recessed screen: #101612 fill, 2px #0B0F0D on its top and left edges, 1.2px #3B4A42 on its bottom and right edges.
- Fine grid: vertical lines every 20 time units at 0.6px (1px every 100) and horizontal lines at each y tick at 0.8px, all #1E2A23. Y tick values sit inside the screen at the right edge, 9.5px dim, right-aligned 5px from the edge (skip the zero).
- Shared x axis: 5px dim ticks every 100 units under the bottom strip, labels 11.5px warm white centered 19px below, and the axis caption ("MET, S") under the label panels.

Marks:
- Line chart: 2px lines with straight segments and round joins in each series color, one series per strip, each ending in a 3px dot. Mark the key extreme with a 4.5px open circle (1.5px stroke) in the series color and a 10px 600 caps label ("PEAK 3.85 G") to its left.
- Bar chart: the same strips and screens with square-cornered bars 60% of the band width filled with the series color at 85% opacity, one series per strip; the readout window shows the latest bar's value.
- Event flags: a 0.8px warm white dashed line (3 on, 3 off) at 55% opacity through every strip, topped by a 1.2px solid staff and a 15px tall warm white flag (label in 10px 600 #101612 caps) that hangs to the left of the staff (to the right when two events crowd each other). Repeat each event time ("T+158") in 9.5px dim text under the axis labels.

Avoid: glows, gradients, rounded corners, drop shadows, saturated neon colors, a single shared chart with multiple y axes, and a separate legend (the label panels are the legend).

When you're done, render the chart and check that every line stays inside its strip, the flags don't overlap each other, the readouts match the last data values, the bevels read as raised panel and recessed screens, and the title does not run into the MET clock.
