Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Migration Flows" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a population-movement dashboard on deep indigo. Inflows rise from one zero line and outflows hang from a second zero line below it like a mirror; a quiet strip of white numerals between them keeps a running tally of the net balance.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #14142B (deep indigo). Net strip behind the numerals: #1D1D3C.
- Inflow series: #FDE68A (pale gold), #FCA5A5 (soft coral), #99F6E4 (aqua).
- Outflow series: #C4B5FD (muted lilac).
- Primary text, zero axis and net numerals: #FFFFFF. Secondary text: #9A9AC0. Gridlines: #2A2A4A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Josefin Sans 700 for the title (23.5px, sentence case, states the finding) and 600 for the eyebrow (12px uppercase, 2.4px letter-spacing, #9A9AC0). Josefin Sans 700 11px uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing for the panel titles and the "NET" label.
- Mulish for everything else: subtitle 14.5px #9A9AC0; legend labels 13px 600 in the series color; axis labels 12.5px with tabular figures; net numerals 10.5px 600 white; end labels 12.5px with the series name in 700 followed by the value in 400, both in the series color; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow, title and subtitle at top, then a legend row drawn as short colored bars (22 x 6 px, 1px radius) each followed by its label, 30px between items.
- Plot from x 96 to 790, y 188 to 500: the inflow panel from y 188 to its zero line at 326, the net strip from 332 to 356, the outflow panel from its zero line at 362 down to 500. End labels sit 12px right of the plot.

Axes and grid:
- Two mirrored panels with the same px-per-unit scale: the inflow panel rises from its own 1.2px white zero line, the outflow panel hangs from a second 1.2px white zero line about 36px lower. Label every tick in both panels with absolute values (0, 5, 10, 15, 20), right-aligned 12px left of the plot, so each panel keeps its own zero reference. Gridlines 1px #2A2A4A every 5 units.
- Panel titles in Josefin Sans 700 11px uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing in #9A9AC0, inside each panel at its top-left on the side away from the data ("IN-MIGRATION BY ORIGIN" just under the inflow panel's top gridline, "OUT-MIGRATION" just under the outflow panel's zero line). Never let the titles replace tick labels.
- Between the two zero lines, a 24px #1D1D3C strip holding the net value for every period, centered on each x position, prefixed with + or a minus sign, with "NET" at its left.
- Year ticks every 5 years under the plot in #9A9AC0.

Marks:
- Line chart: thin 1.9px straight-segment lines, round joins and caps, no markers except a filled r 3.4 dot at each line's last point. Inflow lines plot upward from zero; the outflow line is plotted downward from the lower panel's zero line so it mirrors the inflows.
- Bar chart: mirrored columns: inflows stacked upward in the three inflow colors, outflow downward in #C4B5FD, square corners, 2px gaps between periods, with the same net strip between the two zero lines.

Avoid: filled areas under the lines, glows, gradients, heavy gridlines, markers on every point, labeling negative values with a minus sign on the axis (use absolute values plus panel titles), and a panel without a labeled zero.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every net numeral equals total inflow minus outflow for its year, the numerals do not touch each other, the end labels do not overlap, and the zero axis sits at the exact center of the plot.
