Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Metronome Marks" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a conductor's working notes on clean white paper. Precise and musical: a thin deep-blue step line reads like a sequence of metronome marks, each tempo name set in italic above its step, and a second reading sketched beside it in dashed pencil gray.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF.
- Primary series, eyebrow and its metronome values: #1F3A93 (baton blue).
- Comparison series and its values, captions and source: #8E8E8E (pencil gray).
- Title, tempo names, legend text and axis line: #22252B. Subtitle: #5B5F68. Tick labels: #6B6F78.
- Gridlines, section lines and footer rule: #E3E3E6.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Newsreader 500 for the title (35px, -0.3px letter-spacing, sentence case, stating the finding) and for the tempo names and "rit." (18px and 16px italic 500).
- Alegreya Sans for everything else: eyebrow 12.5px 700 uppercase with 3px letter-spacing in blue, followed by an italic 14px gray work title; subtitle 17px; legend 14.5px 500; tick labels 14px; the primary metronome value 13.5px 700 blue; the comparison value 13.5px 500 gray; captions ("bpm", "Bar number") 13-13.5px italic gray; source 13px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 96, subtitle at y 126, legend row at y 162.
- Plot from x 100 to 896, y 214 to 478. Leave about 40px of headroom above the highest step for its tempo label.
- Footer rule at y 546 and the source line at y 570.

Axes and grid:
- Y axis in beats per minute with 4 or 5 round ticks (60, 90, 120, 150, 180), labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot, "bpm" in italic above the top label. 1px #E3E3E6 horizontal gridlines.
- A 1px vertical #E3E3E6 line at every tempo change, like a double bar line in the score.
- X axis: 1px #22252B baseline, 5px ticks, bar numbers every 50 bars, and "Bar number" in italic right-aligned under the axis.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight-segment step line, 2px #1F3A93, round joins. Tempo changes are vertical steps; ritardandos and accelerandos are gentle straight slopes across their bars, labeled "rit." or "accel." in italic above the slope. The comparison series is the same shape in 1.8px #8E8E8E dashed (5 on, 4 off), drawn underneath.
- Tempo labels: above the start of each step, the tempo name in italic, and under it a hand-drawn quarter note (an ellipse 3.7 x 2.7px rotated -22 degrees plus a 1.1 x 12.5px stem on its right) followed by "= 132" in blue and the comparison value "126" in gray.
- Bar chart: thin square-cornered #1F3A93 bars (about 40% of the band) for the primary series with #8E8E8E outlined bars (1.5px dashed stroke, no fill) beside them for the comparison, italic category names above each group.

Avoid: fills under the line, smoothing the steps into curves, color beyond blue and gray, heavy gridlines, rounded corners, and a boxed legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every tempo label sits above both lines without touching them, the numbers under each label match the step values, the slopes span the right bars, and the title's comparison holds for every section.
