Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Memphis" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: 1980s postmodern design group. Bold pastels, thick black outlines, pattern-filled shapes, and confetti of squiggles, triangles and zigzags scattered around the edges. Loud but tidy.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #FFF5E6 (cream). Ink: #1A1A1A for all outlines, text and pattern marks.
- Series fills, in order: Bubblegum #FF8AB8, Turquoise #35C6C0, Lilac #A58BF2. Accent yellow: #FFD23F.
- Confetti uses the same four pastels plus ink.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Title: Bungee, 36px, uppercase, in ink, set on a yellow #FFD23F block with a 3px ink border, rotated -2 degrees.
- Category labels: Bungee, 16px. Everything else: Poppins. Subtitle 500 16px; legend 600 15px; axis labels 600 14px; callout 700 14px; footer 600 12px uppercase with 1.5px letter-spacing.

Texture (the core of the style):
- Every series gets its own pattern fill, not just a color, so they read in grayscale too:
  - Series 1: polka dots. 12px tile of #FF8AB8 with two #1A1A1A dots of radius 2.1px at (3,3) and (9,9).
  - Series 2: diagonal stripes. 10px tile of #35C6C0 with a 3.5px #1A1A1A stripe, rotated 45 degrees.
  - Series 3: #A58BF2 with a 14px grid of 1.6px ink dots.
- Confetti in the margins only, never under data: a teal wave squiggle (6px stroke, round caps), a lilac triangle with a 3px ink outline, a yellow circle with a 3px ink outline, an ink zigzag (4px), a pink squiggle, a small tilted lilac square, a plus sign, and a patch of the ink dot grid rotated -8 degrees cropped off the top right corner.

Layout:
- Title block top left, subtitle below it, legend on the subtitle's baseline at the right: 26 x 20px swatches filled with each pattern, 3px ink border.
- Plot in the middle with at least 40px of margin left for confetti.

Axes and grid:
- Dotted gridlines: 2px ink, dasharray 2 8, round caps. Ink y labels right-aligned left of the plot. A 4px ink baseline with round caps. No y axis line.

Marks:
- Bar chart: grouped bars 40px wide with a 6px gap between the pair, square corners, pattern fills and a 3px #1A1A1A outline. Highlight the key value with a lilac pill callout (18px radius, 3px ink border) and a short 3px ink pointer.
- Line chart: 5px ink lines with a 3px pastel inner line on top (so each line looks like an outlined tube in its series color), round joins, and markers as 12px pastel circles, triangles or squares with 3px ink outlines. Fill the area under the first series with its dot pattern at full strength, outlined in ink.

Avoid: gradients, soft shadows, thin hairlines, muted or gray colors, and confetti touching the data, labels or legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each series is still distinguishable in grayscale by its pattern, the confetti never collides with text, and the tilted title block doesn't clip its letters.
