Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Material Sample" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a color, material and finish (CMF) review board in an industrial design studio. Each bar is a physical sample chip hung on a ring, and a spec table sits underneath like a swatch card.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F6F5F1 (warm off-white). Ink: #1F1F1D. Secondary text: #77756F. Gridlines and rules: #DEDCD5.
- Chip materials, each a diagonal gradient (top-left light, 45% base, bottom-right dark):
  - Anodized blue: #6E9AD6, #3B6FB6, #244E8C, plus a 2px white inner edge at 25% opacity.
  - Cast gray: #B3B6BA, #8C8F93, #6A6D71.
  - Walnut: #8A5C43, #6B4430, #4E2F20, with nine wavy vertical grain strokes in #3F2517 at 35% opacity, 0.8 to 2px wide.
  - Cork: #D6B38B, #C49A6C, #A87E52, speckled with about 150 small dots (r 0.6 to 1.9) in #8E6337 and #E3C9A3 at 75% opacity.
  - Matte black: #3A3A3A, #262626, #161616.
- Target: #D2452B, used only for the target line and its pill label.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Manrope throughout. Eyebrow 11.5px 700 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in #77756F; title 30px 800 with -0.8px letter-spacing, stating the finding; subtitle 15px 500 #77756F with measure, unit and volume; y labels 12px 600; value labels 18px 800 ink; engraved chip codes 10.5px 700 with 1.4px letter-spacing at 80% opacity (white on dark chips, ink on cork); spec row heads 9.5px 700 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; material names 13px 700; densities 12.5px 500 with a superscript 3; finishes 12px 500 #77756F.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow y 54, title y 96, subtitle y 124.
- Plot from y 170 to the baseline at y 430, chips centered in equal slots from x 120 to 900.
- Spec table under the baseline: rows MATERIAL (y 460), DENSITY (y 486) and FINISH (y 508), row heads at the left margin, a 1px rule between the name row and the rest.
- Footer rule at y 540, "Source: ..." left and a board code ("BOARD 02 / REV B") right in 10.5px 700 caps.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #DEDCD5 gridlines every $5; y labels as "$5" to the left. A 1.2px ink baseline. No y-axis line.
- Target: a 2px #D2452B dotted line (1.5 on, 5 off, round caps) across the whole plot, drawn over the chips, with a pill label "TARGET $9" (86 x 19px, fully rounded, 1px #D2452B outline on page color) at its right end.

Marks:
- Bar chart: each bar is a 92px wide chip with 10px corner radius, filled with its material gradient and texture, casting a soft shadow (0 3px 3px blur, black at 16%). A 5.5px radius hanging hole in page color sits 16px below the top, and an engraved material code 42px below the top. Bars start at zero. Value labels 12px above each chip on a page-colored plate so the target line never cuts through the numbers.
- Line chart: a 2.5px #1F1F1D line with each point drawn as a small 22 x 30px rounded sample chip (radius 5) filled with the category's material gradient, hanging hole included; the dotted target line and pill work the same way, and the spec table labels the x positions.

Avoid: flat generic chart colors, outlines on chips, 3D bevels, more than one accent color, and a legend (the spec table and codes do the labeling).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the textures stay inside the chips, the target line is visible across every chip taller than the target, no value label is crossed by the target line, and the spec text fits each column.
