Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Material Loop" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a sustainability report from a packaging company, printed on warm unbleached paper. Soft, friendly and earthy, with each series ending in a small "recycled" roundel instead of a legend.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F4F0E6 (unbleached paper), with about 260 faint paper fibres: short strokes 3 to 10px long, 0.7px, #D8CDB4 at 70% opacity, randomly placed and angled.
- Series, in order: #8A5A2B (kraft brown), #2E8B57 (bottle green), #2F5E8C (steel blue), #C9A15F (sand). For label text use the same hue, but darken the pale ones for legibility: #2A7A4D for green text, #8F6D33 for sand text.
- Title ink #2B2620. Secondary text #7A7264. Gridlines #E1D9C8, zero baseline #B9AF9C. Target line and its label #8C877C (warm gray).
- Eyebrow text in the first series color (#8A5A2B).

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Fraunces 600 with the soft optical style (font-variation-settings 'SOFT' 100, 'opsz' 72) for the title only: 32px, #2B2620, sentence case, stating the finding.
- Nunito for everything else: eyebrow 12px 800 uppercase, 2.2px letter-spacing; subtitle 16px 400 #7A7264 with measure, unit and period; axis labels 13px 600 #7A7264; end labels 16px 800 in the series color; secondary end lines 12.5px 600 #7A7264; target label 11.5px 800 uppercase, 1.4px letter-spacing; source 12px.

Layout:
- 64px left margin. Eyebrow at y 62, title at y 104, subtitle at y 132.
- Plot from x 104 to 716, y 176 to 508. The right 180px is reserved for end labels.
- A 1px #E1D9C8 rule at y 552 with the source line below it.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines every 10 units, 1px #E1D9C8, extending 8px left of the plot and 14px past it; the zero line 1.2px #B9AF9C. No vertical gridlines and no axis lines.
- Y labels right-aligned 16px left of the plot, only the top label carries the unit ("70%").
- X labels centered 26px below the baseline.
- The target: a 1.6px #8C877C dashed line (7 on, 5 off) across the plot, labeled above its left end in the uppercase target style ("2030 TARGET: 60% RECYCLED CONTENT").

Marks:
- Line chart: monotone smooth curves, 3px, round caps, each drawn over a 7px #F4F0E6 halo so crossings stay clean. A 3.5px dot at the first point. At the last point, a 1.4px dotted leader (2 on, 3 off) runs 26px right to a roundel: a 12.5px-radius circle filled with the page color and stroked 2px in the series color, containing a circular arrow (a 6px-radius arc of about 290 degrees, 2px, round cap, ending in a small filled arrowhead). To the right of the roundel: "Name 57%" in the end-label style and, 17px below, the change since the first period ("+16 pts since 2016").
- Bar chart: vertical bars in the same four colors with 3px-rounded top corners, 60% of the band, separated from each other by 2px of page color when grouped. Each series gets the same roundel plus name label at the right end of its last bar group, or a row of roundels as a legend above the plot. The target is the same dashed gray line with its uppercase label.

Avoid: a boxed legend, pure white, black text, saturated primaries, drop shadows, heavy axis lines.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the end labels do not collide (nudge them apart vertically if two series end close together), that the sand line reads against the paper, and that the circular arrows are recognizable at thumbnail size.
